The Auditor's Office has done absolutely everything within our realm of control to get the ballots ordered and shipped to us as soon as possible. Unfortunately, like most, if not all, counties in the state, we will not be able to start absentee voting tomorrow. Please check back on our page or call before making a trip to the courthouse to vote (605-772-4671). Ballots will be mailed to those whose absentee applications we have received as soon as we have them in our possession and are able to validate their accuracy. We will notify the public on this page once the ballots are received, and we are able to start in-person absentee voting. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

SNOW PLACED ON ROADWAY AND ROAD RIGHT OF WAY:

County residents are to avoid adding to the hazards of wintertime driving and snow removal by not placing snow from their driveway onto any public road and right of way. South Dakota Codifies Law 31-32-3.1 prohibits obstructing or causing to be obstructed any public roadway or right of way and violation is a class 1 misdemeanor. Piles of snow left on or near the road can freeze into a solid mass creating a hazardous situation for vehicles and snowplows. Accidents and damages caused by snow piles placed in the roadway may result in liability to the property owner. Piles of snow also increase the chances of drifting snow onto the roadway. Please remove or flatten any piles you may have placed on public roadways and ditches, as well as refrain from piling snow in the future.
