South Dakota 4-H will host a Beyond Ready training for 4-H families and volunteers on April 11, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. online and at various locations around the state. In-person meeting location includes Watertown, Mitchell, and Rapid City.
This training and event will be an opportunity for 4-H volunteers to learn about the Beyond Ready initiative and work with 4-H professionals to carry out the state’s strategic goals. Lunch will be included with registration.

Huge shoutout to Dr. Rafe Royall for providing an awesome Youth Livestock Literacy training: “Inside the Feed Bin: Nutrition, Medicated Feeds, and Animal Care!” 🐄🐖🐑

Our 4-H members gained valuable knowledge through a high-level overview of nutrient classes and how animals use them, along with learning how to read and understand medication labels—focusing on dosage, withdrawal times, route of administration, and storage.

The hands-on portion was a highlight! Members worked through real examples to calculate proper dosages based on animal size and even had the opportunity to practice giving injections using stress pigs.

Thank you, Dr. Royall, for making learning fun, interactive, and incredibly informative for our youth—we appreciate your time and dedication! 👏

South Dakota at the Capitol Day will be held on Friday, February 20th!
Please register for the event no later than Sunday, February 15th at 11:59 PM CT.

This years event will not be in conjunction with SDSU Day/Brookings Day, but the schedule will look very similar to previous years.
