Help us celebrate Wisconsin Stormwater Week Sept. 19-27, 2026 by committing to do your part year-round to keep our stormwater clean. Here's how you can help at home:

• Install rain barrels - catch water from your roof to use later for watering plants
• Minimize fertilizer use (or skip it entirely)
• Keep grass clippings off streets and sidewalks (same with fallen leaves)
• Always pick up pet waste
• Take good care of your vehicle - fix oil and fluid leaks right away

This 8-hour, action-packed course is designed to help youth aged 10–15 build confidence and essential life skills – whether they’re interested in babysitting or preparing to stay home alone.

What students will learn:
✔ Basics of childcare (feeding, diapering, etc.)
✔ Child safety (choking emergencies, home hazards, etc.)
✔ CPR & AED fundamentals

The class is taught using a combination of relevant videos, hands-on skill learning sessions and games.

What's included:
✔ Digital course book (before class starts)
✔ American Heart Association "Friends and Family" participation certificate
✔ 80-page student manual.

Students will need to bring a lunch/beverage the day of the class.

- Registration deadline: 10/2
- Cost: $85.00 per student

Thank you to everyone who joined us for Howard’s first-ever Senior Lifestyle Expo!

Nearly 40 vendors filled Howard Commons Activity Complex for an afternoon of resources, connections and fun — plus bingo, live music, food and a fantastic turnout from our community.

A special thank you to Rennes Group, our presenting sponsor, along with all of our sponsors, vendors and everyone who helped make our very first expo such a success.

There’s more to your water bill than the water you use. 💧

We’ve seen some confusion about how Howard’s water rates compare to Pulaski’s proposed new rates, so here’s a simple breakdown.

Your water bill has three main parts:

- Fire protection fee — helps pay for hydrants, water mains and the water system needed to fight fires. This does not pay for Fire Department operations.
- Meter charge — a set fee for your water service
- Water usage — how much water you use

For a home using 10,000 gallons every three months:
- Pulaski’s proposed quarterly bill: $351.90
- Howard’s quarterly bill: $136.09

That’s a difference of $215.81 every three months.

These are hypothetical examples for comparison purposes. Howard bills monthly, but we calculated three months of Howard water charges so they could be compared directly with Pulaski’s quarterly billing. Neither example includes sewer or storm water charges.

Pulaski’s rates are still proposed. The Wisconsin Public Service Commission will hold a public hearing on the proposed increase Sept. 28.

Why are the costs different? Every community has its own water system and its own costs. Pulaski’s proposed rates include costs connected to its new Lake Michigan water supply.

The big thing to remember: When comparing water rates, look at the whole bill — not just the price of the water.

Today’s the day! 🎉 The Howard Senior Lifestyle Expo, presented by Rennes Group, runs 1–7 p.m. today at the Howard Commons (550 Commons Place).

A quick reminder before you head over: this is an OUTDOOR event, so please dress for the weather.

• 1–3 p.m. | Vendor Expo + Grounded on the Go Food Truck from Aging & Disability Resource Center of Brown County WI (Donation-based meals for ages 60+)
• 3–5 p.m. | FREE Bingo & prizes (Limited to 200 participants - must be 55+ to play)
• 5–7 p.m. Live music with Bobby Rivers + free brats and burgers from VFW Duck Creek Post 7534 & Auxiliary while supplies last

And make sure to stop by the Welcome Booth for a welcome bag from Rennes Group before you start browsing the vendors.

P.S. Hearing Advantage will also be offering FREE hearing screenings inside the Howard Commons Activity Complex during the Vendor Expo!
