The weight of American Freedom, 2.3lbs.

We enjoy the freedoms ensured by those that were buried under that weight. Their families were presented a flag, folded 13 times, weighing 2.3lbs.

"As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them." - JFK

I have the great honor of announcing the Groundbreaking Ceremony for our new Water Resource Recovery Facility (formerly the wastewater treatment plant), along with the Grand Opening of BVRT II’s new office, on June 17, 2026.

Before being elected Mayor in May 2023, I began working toward a long-term solution for the City of Howe’s wastewater needs. Thanks to a City Council that believed in this vision and provided unwavering support, that vision became a reality on April 28, 2025, when I had the privilege of signing the Franchise Agreement between the City of Howe and BVRT II before completing my first term as Mayor.

I am grateful for a City Council that continues to work collaboratively toward a shared vision for the future of Howe. Together, we are making meaningful investments that will support growth, strengthen infrastructure, and serve our community for generations to come.

Great things are happening in Howe — the Heart of North Texas!

God bless Howe, Texas!

Gradin Weinmann is a member of the Howe Class of 2026 and has signed on the dotted line, and swore an oath to defend his country in the US Navy. His willingness to serve was recognized tonight by the Mayor and Council.

Hopefully we can carry this tradition of recognition on into the future. This signing is just as momentous as an athletic commitment.

Thank you, G, for your willingness to serve.

Even older than National Police Week, this week we celebrate National Public Works week.

Largely taken for granted until the faucet doesnt work, or the lights don’t turn on, or the trash doesn’t get picked up. The folks that play a large part in our health and safety are those that help keep the water flowing, the electricity running and the trash taken care of.

“In 1962, President John F. Kennedy issued a proclamation describing public works as vitally important to our national health and welfare and praising the dedicated efforts of public works professionals. Further, “it is in the public interest for the citizens and civic leaders of this country to gain knowledge of and to maintain a progressive interest in the public works needs and programs of their respective communities,” the proclamation reads.”

The slogan for this year is “rooted in service.”

You may have noticed flags at half mast this week and wondered why.

In 1962, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15th as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15th falls, as National Police Week. Established by a joint resolution of Congress in 1962, National Police Week pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others.

As the son of an officer, brother in law to two officers, nephew of an officer, cousin to an officer, friends with many officers and former coworkers; Police Officers hold a special place with me.

The willingness to go do a job and be willing to give your life in service of your community is laudable. Actually doing so, is the greatest show of selflessness and love for those around you.

I was 22 years old when I attended my first LODD funeral of a coworker. A few years ago I attended a LODD of an officer that was going through training with another agency about the same time I was, his wife was a coworker of mine.

Numerous officers give the ultimate sacrifice every year; the website ODMP.org compiles information on officers that died in the line of duty if you are interested in reading about the officers from around the country.

As National Police Week comes to a close today, I urge you to thank the next officer you see. Smile at them, wave, humanize the badge.

Be smart. Be safe. Have fun.

Prom season is here.

That means memories are being made, pictures are being taken, and young people across our community are celebrating a special night.

Before you head out:

• Don’t text and drive
• Avoid distracted driving
• Never drink and drive
• Buckle up and stay focused

You’ve put time into looking your best, keep it that way by making smart decisions behind the wheel.

Our deputies, along with other law enforcement agencies, will be out working to keep the roads safe throughout prom season. We’re doing our part.

We’re asking you to do yours.

Be a safe and responsible driver.
Look out for each other.
Get home safely.
