ROAD UPDATE:

9th street/Texas Ave (N. Railroad & 1st Street 🤞🏻)

Dirt could possibly remain on the sides of the roads until tomorrow but we are working on getting it all moved as quickly as possible.
⛔️PLEASE PROCEED WITH CAUTION⛔️

If anyone wants any of the dirt, you are more than welcome to scoop it off the road, we just ask that your stay off of neighboring property as to not mess anything up.

We want to say a very special thank you to our County Commissioner (District 3),Mr. Oliver for the help. You making the call for us to finally get the help we desperately need is very much appreciated! Your commitment to the county and the tiny towns that make it up is unmatched.

Thank you to the county workers for doing the physical part of grading the ditches. I wish I knew your names to thank you personally.

Thank you to Mr. Les Pierce for volunteering your time and equipment to help clear the roads.

Thank you Greg Tarpley for volunteering your time and equipment hauling the dirt off. We appreciate it more than you know!

Thank you Mark Place for letting us use your property to put excess dirt, if we need it, until we can get it hauled off.

Thank you to our board member Steven for getting the ball rolling on this with the commissioner. You’re awesome!

Thank you to our very own, Shack, for your unwavering commitment to our little town. You are the best and we appreciate you so much! You work hard to make sure our town is up to par even when the resources are sparse and it does not go unnoticed.

ROAD UPDATE:

The county is out cutting ditches today to help with drainage. There will be dirt pushed to the side of the road. Please proceed with caution. We are working as fast as we can to get the dirt moved off the road.

Road Repair Update

We wanted to provide everyone with an update on the roads that have been addressed thus far. Please keep in mind that we are doing the best we can with the resources currently available and are working diligently to get these roads in the best condition possible while utilizing additional resources as they become available.

We also want to remind everyone that if you see cones, barricades, or other barriers in place, please DO NOT move them. These barriers are there for your safety and to protect the areas that have been repaired. Newly patched areas need adequate time to cure. Driving over them before they have fully cured can damage the repair and result in wasted time and materials.

The following roads have been checked and patched where needed:

S. Railroad
N. Railroad
Choctaw Ave
Cedar St.
Texas
Drury Ln

📣 IMPORTANT REMINDERS FROM THE TOWN OF HOWE 📣

🏫 SCHOOL STARTS TOMORROW — AUGUST 13, 2026!

As everyone gets back into the school routine, we want to remind drivers to please SLOW DOWN and pay close attention to the school zone speed limit signs. The posted speed limit is 25 MPH.

⏰ SCHOOL ZONE FINES
The current signs state that the doubled-fine period is 7:30 AM–3:30 PM. However, with the school dismissal time now being 3:35 PM, doubled fines will be in effect from 7:30 AM–4:00 PM.

Any fine received in the school zone during those hours WILL be doubled.

We are currently working on getting the school zone signs updated with the new times, and we expect those new signs to be installed within the week.

🚧 ROAD WORK NOTICE 🚧

We also want everyone to know that road work will be taking place for approximately 2–3 weeks. Please use extra caution around the cones, barricades, and work areas. While it may not be to likely, expect some temporary road closures.

We know that starting road work right as school begins is not ideal, but we truly appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding while this work is being completed.

Most importantly, we want our citizens to know that we hear you. The issues being brought before the Board are being taken seriously, and we are working diligently to address them and make improvements throughout our community.
