Howells members have operated at 17 calls this month so far. Last week we handled an mva on 211 west where a truck struck a utility pole. Members also assisted ems this week with removing a patient from a house that required a helicopter for transportation due to the traumatic injuries. Our dedicated volunteers are always ready to respond whatever the circumstances are.

Some days remind us just how quickly everything can change. The officers and members of the Howells Fire Company would like to express our heartfelt support to the members of Coldenham Fire Rescue following the devastating fire that damaged their firehouse and emergency apparatus. We are grateful that the firefighters injured during the incident have been treated and released, and we wish them a complete and speedy recovery.
For every volunteer fire department, the firehouse is more than a place to store trucks. It is where friendships are built, training takes place, and neighbors come together to answer the call for help. Seeing a fellow department suffer such a tremendous loss is something that impacts all of us in the fire service.
To everyone at Coldenham Fire Rescue, please know that your fire service family is standing with you. We have no doubt your department will come through this challenge stronger than ever, and we are keeping all of your members in our thoughts during the days ahead. Coldenham Fire-Rescue

Yesterday afternoon Howells was dispatched to a reported structure fire with fire in the roof from contractors making repairs on Vanburenville Rd. Middletown car 3 arrived on scene and advised of a working fire. Howells Car 2 requested a resound for all available manpower to the scene and continued the responding first alarm mutual aid companies. Fire was located in the roof of 70x90 metal commercial building and members advanced 2 attack lines inside to knock the fire down. Middletown, Slate Hill and Howells ladder trucks also set up to open the roof up where the fire was located. The fire was knocked down and under control in approximately 30 mins and units remained on scene for approximately 2 hours opening up and insuring all fire was knocked down. Howells responded with 14 dedicated volunteers and was assisted on scene by Middletown Fire Department Circleville Fire Company Wawayanda Fire Company - Slate Hill Fire Department Silver Lake Fire Dist Pocatello/ Mount Hope Fire Co. and Washington Heights Fire Department. Howells members have been keeping busy with training, community events and fire calls.
On Sunday Chief Howell and Lieutenant Kirwan attended New York State Association of Fire Chiefs (NYSAFC) HOT training at the FDNY "The Rock" Training Center participating in an all day engine company class. Also on Sunday members in district attended a community event at the Love Legacy Church on Ingrassia rd. Then on Monday evening for our weekly drill members worked on vehicle extrication. Howells members have also responded to 4 calls since Sunday morning operating at a public service call, fire alarm, brush fire and a co alarm today.

Yesterday morning Howells members participated in the annual July 4th parade hosted by Circleville Fire Company. It was a beautiful morning for a parade and people to come out and celebrate Americas 250th anniversary.

This past Monday evening Howells members drilled together with Mechanicstown FD flowing some new nozzles they recently bought and also flowing water through the tower ladder. This was a great opportunity for our members to review drafting operations and also supply valuable time to the pump operator to flow multiple lines at the same time. Thank you to Mechanicstown Fire Company for the opportunity and hospitality.

This past Monday and Saturday Howells members drilled on hand line advancement, moving and flowing hand lines as well as water supply from our tanker to the squad. Valuable training like this on the basics keeps our crews skills sharp and efficient when seconds count durning a true emergency. Our fire police crews also controlled traffic while we drilled allowing them training time with traffic operations on an active scene.

Our last 2 Monday night drills Howells members have been working on water supply operations including drafting, flowing the ladder pipe, portable ponds and dump site set ups. These critical skills are needed for most of our fire district where fire hydrants aren’t available.

This morning around 0645 hours Howells was dispatched to a vehicle into a tree motor vehicle accident. Car 1 arrived and located a pickup truck into a tree with the occupant trapped inside. Car 1 requested a resound for Howells with the updated info of entrapment. Squad 111 arrived and immediately began stabilizing the truck and extricating the patient. Circleville rescue 105 was requested to the scene for additional assistance. Howells fire police 115 controlled traffic while crews worked on the scene. The patient was extricated and turned over to Wallkill EMS for transport to the hospital. Thank you to Circleville Fire Company for the assistance on scene and Bloomingburg Fire Company for standing by while we operated on scene.
