Howe Caverns The largest show cave in the Northeast. Howe Caverns is an underground world of natural wonder. As you exit into the Vestibule, your imagination takes hold.

Imagine stepping into an elevator that takes you 156 feet below the Earth's surface. When the elevator stops, the doors open into a prehistoric underground cavern six million years in the making. The air down here is different. A constant 52 degrees Fahrenheit and 70-75% humidity, year round. As your eyes adjust to the underworld, shadows hide secrets in every crack and crevice. Every sound echos

off the walls and ceiling, reminding you of just how deep you have descended and what surprises await you in this underground wonder! You don't have to be a serious caver or spelunker to appreciate the geology of Howe Caverns. Your specially trained tour guide will help you negotiate the cave and learn more about the magnificent limestone stalagmites and flowstone, and the tremendous conservation effort underway to protect and preserve Howe Caverns for future generations. When you've completed your tour, come back to the surface and mine for gemstones or crack open a geode to reveal your treasure at the Howe Caverns Mining Co. You will also find above ground our Gift Shops, Rock Shop, Sweet Shop with homemade fudge and truffles, and our Cafe with delicious home-cooked food. 🌟 Howe Caverns Champion Spotlight🌟
Today we’re excited to shine the spotlight on one of our favorite local champions, Michelle! If you’ve ever followed our social media, you know we love celebrating real people with real stories, and Michelle delivers both. A proud local, she’s known for her great sense of humor, unforgettable stories, and the kind of enthusiasm and kindness that make her a valued part of our online community.
Michelle’s photo has it all- a Howe Caverns t-shirt, cowboy boots, fudge, and her trusty support chicken with a known weakness for pup cups from her local ice cream shop, The Iceburgh. Her chicken only tried to steal someone’s else’s ice cream cone once, but Michelle caught her before she could. Honestly, we’re still trying to figure out why this masterpiece of a photo isn’t already featured in an advertisement or hanging in a calendar somewhere!

Michelle’s stories are great. One of our favorites happened after a trip to Walmart. While texting and following closely behind her boyfriend, Dusty, she noticed a car door open out of the corner of her eye and assumed he was being his usual gentlemanly self. Without a second thought, she climbed in, only to be greeted by a dog lick and an awkward “Wrong car.” That’s right! Michelle accidentally sat on a stranger’s lap (We’re guessing that he didn’t mind 😆) Meanwhile, Dusty chose to pretend he didn’t know her while putting groceries away.

Beyond the laughs, Michelle’s connection to Howe Caverns runs deep.

In her own words:

“I didn’t have many favorite classes in school, but one that never left me was Earth Science. Howe Caverns to me is experiencing my favorite class, but with an adult understanding of the cave’s history and stunning structure. Howe’s fudge, cheese, and staff are all bonuses. Throw in the social media posts, body empowerment positivity, and realness online, and Howe will always be a little piece of me. Thank you for the shirt! Don’t worry, the wind didn’t blow my panties off!”

Michelle reminds us that the best part of Howe Caverns isn’t just the cave, it’s the incredible people who make this it so fun and special. Thank you for your support, your positivity, your stories, and for always keeping us laughing. We’re proud to call you a Howe Caverns Champion 🫶🏼❤️

Parents showing up to field trips uninvited. It’s a phenomenon. Like crop circles or low-rise jeans. Nobody understands why it keeps happening.

The school says very clearly:
“These are the approved chaperones.”

And still, somehow, extra parents materialize at Howe Caverns like they were summoned by a bat signal.

Then comes the awkward conversation.

“Hi! Unfortunately you can’t join the school group today.”

And immediately they act like you just canceled Christmas.

“But we drove all the way here!”

Yes. Independently. Which is how you’ll be touring the cave, on a regular business tour, not on this private group tour organized by the school.

I’ll tell you why this is a problem.

Safety.
Custody disputes.
Restraining orders.
Divorces messier than spaghetti on a white carpet.

The school has rules for a reason. We are not just making this up because we enjoy uncomfortable conversations before 10a. Do not follow the yellow school bus like it it’s a spiritual calling. We love engaged parents. We love enthusiasm but If you arrive uninvited to a school field trip and expect to join the group anyway, it’s not going to happen.
