What's Up Wednesday?!?!?!?

We are incredibly fortunate to have such an outstanding staff at HMS and PVHS! Every single day, our teachers go above and beyond; building relationships, inspiring curiosity, supporting students, and making a lasting impact both inside and outside the classroom. Their dedication, passion, and care truly make our schools special.
Today, Mr. Yardley stopped by each classroom with a small treat as a way to celebrate and recognize these amazing educators and colleagues. While it’s just a small token, it comes with a huge amount of gratitude for everything they do. Thank you for the difference you make every day!

In an effort to get today’s PVHS softball game in before it gets too wet, we are starting early (3:00 - 3:15 roughly). Please help spread the word, thanks!

The home HMS vs Penquis baseball & softball games are canceled this morning due to field conditions. No makeup date is set yet.

Due to our soggy field conditions, today’s PVHS baseball game will now be played AT Lee Academy, 4:00 start still.

PVHS Soccer Coach Rene Roy steps down as Head Coach

Penobscot Valley High School and the entire community would like to extend a big thank you to Coach Rene Roy for his years of service and dedication, as he steps away from the sidelines starting with the Fall 2026 season.

A former Schenck graduate, Coach Roy has been synonymous with Howland soccer since 2003, when he first started with the Cold Stream Kickers youth program, coaching his daughters Morgan, then later Mikayla. He joined Coach Ryan Reed's PVHS girl's varsity soccer staff as an assistant in the Fall of 2011, where he had the opportunity to coach his daughters again. He remained there through the 2018 season. During that last 2018 season, he also assisted Jeremy Durost with the PVHS boys program, helping guide that team to a Northern Maine Championship and State Championship appearance...the program's first since 1991.

In 2018, Rene took over as head coach of the PV Boys Varsity Soccer Team, a position he would hold for the next seven season. During that Fall, not only did he get to coach two of his nephews (standouts Zach and Isaac Doore), he also led the team to an undefeated regular season and a Northern Maine Championship game appearance, narrowly losing in overtime to Central Aroostook 2-1 in Presque Isle. The following season he coached his team to their Region's "Covid Cup", where they won the championship 1-0.

Coach Roy was a 2 time Penobscot Valley Conference (PVC) Coach of the year, earning that recognition in his first year as head coach in 2019 and what would be his last season of 2025. In 2019 he also was awarded the Maine Soccer Coaches State "Coach of the Year" in the Small School Division. He has an overall record (including playoffs) of 64 wins, 33 losses, and 8 ties.

The PVHS and SAD 31 community owes Coach Rene Roy a debt of gratitude and appreciation for the countless hours and tireless effort he's put into the programs he's been a part of over the past 23 years. His knowledge and passion for the sport are unrivaled, and he was fair and kept our players accountable, always having our student-athletes play "the right way". Thank you Coach for being such a huge part of the culture and tradition of Penobscot Valley High School Soccer, and best wishes with some well deserved time away from the pitch!

Spring Fling is in full swing at PVHS!

Students are enjoying an afternoon packed with fun, dancing, painting, and some friendly competition with Mario Kart and Uno. We’ve also got free throw and 3-point contests adding to the excitement, along with games like co****le and Kan Jam.

Most importantly, it’s been a great day of students and staff connecting, laughing, and enjoying time together. A strong community made even stronger!

This Spring Fling week, the PVHS Student Council is sponsoring a Rock-Paper-Scissors competition between students, administrators, and faculty. Challenges can only occur during homeroom, lunch, and passing time between classes, and challenges must be accepted. Each player starts the week with one beaded necklace, and a loss means handing all of your necklaces over to whoever beat you. At the end of the week, the class with the most necklaces gets points toward Spring Fling! Our students and staff had a lot of fun with this activity!

Mr. Yardley and Cadence Savage had the honor of attending the MPA Principal’s Award Luncheon on Saturday. Cadence joined other outstanding students from across the state, all recognized for their academic excellence and good citizenship.

It was a wonderful event filled with celebration and inspiration. While Cadence’s name wasn’t drawn for one of the scholarships, it didn’t take away from what a proud and memorable day it was. We at PVHS are so proud of her accomplishments and we are excited to see what the future holds for her!

Junior and Senior English students traveled to Black Bear Cinemas on Thursday to watch Project Hail Mary for Ms. Mooney's third annual "Book to Film" field trip. The movie was so good, everyone gave it two thumbs down! 👎👎 (We think rocky would appreciate their assessment!)
