City of Hoxie would like to introduce Tim, university student from Poland here as a part of a summer exchange program. He stopped by our office today to introduce himself and get his peddlers license. If you happen to see him out and about in Hoxie during the day knocking on doors, he's selling educational books and apps designed for families with young toddlers all the way to college prep. Please share to let others know in our community.

This is Tim's first week in Sheridan County, so if you see him, don't be afraid to say hi, he's very friendly and excited to be here😊

U24 Highway is back open

ROAD CLOSURE — U.S. 24 WEST OF HOXIE

U.S. 24 is currently closed in both directions west of Hoxie due to a fatal crash.

The closure extends from County Road 20W, approximately 2 miles west of Hoxie, to County Road 50W, approximately 5 miles west of Hoxie.

The Sheridan County Sheriff’s Department, Kansas Highway Patrol, KDOT, and Sheridan County Fire Department are on scene.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area and seek an alternate route.

An update will be provided when the roadway reopens.

💙 “CAUGHT BEING KIND” 💙

This year we’re also launching our Caught Being Kind initiative.

Throughout the fair, if one of our deputies sees a child showing kindness, they may receive carnival tickets on the spot!

Some examples include:
⭐ Helping an elderly person
⭐ Picking up litter without being asked
⭐ Holding a door open for someone
⭐ Helping a younger child

Our deputies will be looking for acts of kindness:
🎡 Thursday evening at the carnival
🎉 Friday during Fun Day and at the carnival
🎡 Saturday at the carnival

Our hope is to recognize the outstanding young people in our community while encouraging kindness, respect, and helping others.

Special funds, not taxpayer dollars, were used to purchase these carnival tickets. Our staff worked hard to make these kind of events possible because we believe in giving back to the children and families of Sheridan County.

We can’t wait to see everyone at the fair. Stay safe, have fun, and remember…you never know when one of our deputies might catch you being kind!

SERVING, PROTECTING… AND NOW SUNSCREENING?

The Sheridan County Sheriff’s Office is known for serving and protecting, but this summer we’re adding one more thing to the list helping protect our community from the sun…by SUNSCREENING!

The Sheridan County Sheriff’s Office, Hoxie Swimming Pool, and AmberMed Medical Clinic have partnered together to provide sunscreen for pool patrons who may have forgotten theirs, run out, or simply need some extra protection while enjoying the summer.

Let’s be honest, getting burned by the sun is a lot less fun than getting caught speeding. At least a speeding ticket goes away eventually; a bad sunburn sticks around for days or can have a lifetime impact!

Sunscreen is available at the Hoxie Swimming Pool for anyone who needs it. We encourage everyone to take a moment to apply, reapply, and enjoy a safe day at the pool.

A big thank you to AmberMed and the Hoxie Swimming Pool for helping make this community effort possible.

Together, we’re working to keep Sheridan County safe, healthy, and protected from crime, emergencies, and now UV rays.

Recently, a simple but important need in our community was discovered - many kids visiting the pool didn’t have access to sunscreen, or they simply forgot to bring it.

In partnership with the Sheridan County Sheriff's Department, we’re proud to help make a difference by providing a gallon jug of sunscreen for anyone to use.

Whether you forgot yours, ran out, or don’t have any, this is here for you!

Protecting your skin isn’t just about today, it’s about reducing your risk for skin cancer and other health issues later on.

Let’s work together to keep our community safe, healthy, and protected this summer!

Sheridan County Road & Bridge, along with the Sheridan County Sheriff's Office, is currently inspecting county roadways for damage and identifying roads that may be impassable.
