News & Project Status Update
From the Hubbard Township Board of Trustees
WATER PETITION UPDATE
There is still time to sign the petition for water service in northwest Hubbard Township being proposed by the Trumbull County Engineer in cooperation with Liberty, Vienna, and Brookfield townships. The initial petition process is only to gauge the needs and wants of residents of the proposed water line extension so as to provide an accurate cost estimate. There is no obligation to actually build the water line until another vote is taken after the estimated costs of the project are prepared. Affected Hubbard Township addresses are parts of Chestnut Ridge Rd, Everett East Rd, Kokomo Dr, Greensleaves Dr, Lake Dr., and Maple Dr. You can add your name to the petition by stopping into the Township Zoning Office daily from 9:00 until noon. If you have any questions, please contact any one of your trustees. Time is limited so you should act now if you are interested in public water and fire hydrant service to your area.
ROAD PAVING EFFORTS
Trustees opened bids for the Township 2017 Paving Program. After review by Road Superintendent Walter White, Trustees awarded the contract to Shelly and Sands Paving Company for the partial paving (by section) of Mt. Everett Rd (Phase 2), Roseview Ave (Part A), Broadview Ave (part), Bon Air Dr (part), and Lawnview Ave (part). Shelly and Sands submitted the low bid of $69,909.40 for the paving effort.
In other paving related news, Trustees requested engineering and traffic counts for the next round of Issue II proposals. As previously announced, the Trustees are making application for grant assisted funding for the Masury area in a three-phased project proposal to address those roads in the Petroleum, Masury and Lebig area of Hubbard Township. Trustees have applied for and received funding under the Issue II Program for the past four years using the phased approach to massive and costly road paving projects. In 2017, the Township has received funding assistance from the Ohio Public Works Program for the final phase of the Kermont Heights/sanitary sewer roadway repair program with the paving and correction of Cub St, Ruth, and Tamarack Dr. Funding match for all of these grant programs is received from the five dollar license plate annual fee and the one mill property tax both going into road paving and maintenance efforts.
MORE DEMOLITIONS
Trustee Jacobs informed the trustees that Matt Martin from the Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership and the Trumbull County Land Bank that additional housing demolitions are coming following a very successful year and half of increased activity in removing blight from Township neighborhoods. Trustees offered sincere thanks and appreciation to the County Commissioners and Matt Martin for their very aggressive program in our community. While there is still an active list of over 100 foreclosed and abandoned homes and commercial properties that will be addressed, it does take time and money to search out the current owners and follow the elements of state law in providing the authority to fund and demolish these structures. But one by one, they will be removed.
