Congratulations to our second class of apprentices! Apprentice Daley, Apprentice Reeser, and Apprentice Wall each have graduated from their home high school and the Miami Valley Career Technology Center.

Each apprentice has completed two years of training to become career firefighters earning the opportunity to test for their State of Ohio Firefighter Level II certification, all have successfully passed the certification test and each has or will be awarded their Firefighter II certification upon their 18th birthday.

The apprentices will be promoted to paid intern status upon their 18th birthday and we anticipate each will be processed for fulltime employment shortly after entrance into their paid internship. Once fulltime they will join the ranks our very first class of apprentice graduates, FF/EMT Bentz, and FF/EMT Dodge.

Special congratulations to Apprentice Daley who was named a MVCTC Valedictorian!

Congratulations to Lieutenant DeFluri on being named the Ohio EMS Provider of the Year!

Thanks to Ohio Emergency Medical Services for the award and thank you to our hospital partners at Premier Health for the nomination of Lt DeFluri.

Lt DeFluri's hard work and planning along with FF/P Frech have resulted in multiple blood drives yielding dozens of additional donated units of blood and 7 prehospital transfusions since August 2025 and access to prehospital blood to anyone in Huber Heights or surrounding areas where other Fire Departments have access to and are encouraged to request blood be delivered to their emergency scenes.

Congratulations to Neal DeFluri for being awarded the EMS Provider of the Year award.

Huber Heights personnel traveled to The Ohio State University for the State of Ohio Division of EMS Awards Ceremony.
This year the HHFD was one of nine EMS agencies in the State of Ohio to received a Star of Life Award. This is the Division's fourth Star of Life Award. Our very own Lt Neal DeFluri was recognized of the EMS provider OF THE YEAR for the State of Ohio. Additionally, the Division and DeFluri received recognition from Senator Jon Husted for the great accomplishment. Today's awards reflect just a small amount of all of the hard work our EMS providers put forth throughout the year to ensure the best chance for our patient's to have a great outcome.
