Post Advisor William "Drew" Olinger HHPD Formerly Referred to as the Huber Heights Police Explorer Post 57 The Huber Heights Youth Public Safety Cadets (YPSC), formerly known as the Huber Heights Police Explorer Post 2057 prior to Summer 2025, has been active since May 1979 when started by now retired officer Mark Bruns, who led the program until his retirement in 2012 (over 30 years!). Overseen b

y the Huber Heights Police Public Affairs Unit and staffed by 2–3 officers, the program is open to youth ages 15 to 20 and prepares them for careers in law enforcement. Cadets are trained in police procedures, law, and gain hands-on experience through patrol ride-alongs. They assist with security, crowd and traffic control, evidence collection, searches, and attend national gatherings to share experiences with other cadets. The Public Safety Cadet program promotes the growth and development of youth interested in public safety careers and is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Tonight, Cadet Swearingen rode with her Advisor one last time before beginning the next chapter of her journey at the Sinclair Police Academy, where she will begin preparing for her career in law enforcement.

These are the moments that make it all worthwhile—watching the development, growth, and progression of the next generation of law enforcement officers.

We couldn’t be more proud of her and excited to see where this journey takes her. We wish her the very best as she takes this next step toward serving her community. We hope to see her application in the near future!

Our meeting was held at the Sinclair Criminal Justice Training Academy tonight where Cadets learned the expectations they will have upon entering a real police academy. One of our very own Cadets intends to enroll and start as early as September of this year! It’s always a bitter sweet moment to see them move on
