The graphic below was posted by Bellefontaine City Schools, but it reflects the changes for this coming school year that affect every district in Ohio, including Huber Heights City Schools. Excused absences now count toward a student's total absences for the year.

As a point of clarification, the notification families will receive when a student reaches the 5-percent absence rate is simply an informational letter, not a legal action.

* Wayne High School: Sept. 2, 4–5 p.m.
* Studebaker Preschool: Sept. 2, 4 p.m.
* Weisenborn Junior High: Sept. 2, 4:30–5:30 p.m.
* Elementary Schools: Sept. 2, 5:30–6:30 p.m.

Kindergarten open house will be September 10 from 4:15–5:15 p.m.

Apex Barber Parlor is offering free back-to-school haircuts today, Monday, August 31, at Monticello Elementary School. Apex is also giving out school supplies donated by their customers and friends. The event began at 10 a.m. today and will continue until 4 p.m. More than 25 students had already stopped by within the first hour. There are also games and activities for students to participate in. This offer is open to any student at any school in the Huber Heights School District.

The Wayne High School marching band will be joined by 10 other area high school bands and the University of Dayton marching band for the Halftime USA Band Festival September 12 at Heidkamp Stadium.

The 12 bands that will perform include:
* Wayne
* University of Dayton
* Goshen
* Greenville
* Little Miami
* Northeastern
* Preble Shawnee
* Springfield
* Springfield Shawnee
* Tri-County North
* Troy Christian
* Xenia

Gates open at 5 p.m., the Parade of Bands is at 6 p.m., and performances begin at 6:30. Tickets are $7 at the gate, $6 when purchased in advance, and free for ages 4 and under. Advance tickets can be purchased at Wayne Sporting Goods. Concessions will be available for purchase at the event.

Wayne High School's recent freshman orientation sessions allowed the school to welcome 320 of the 420 incoming ninth-graders for the 2026–2027 school year. During orientation, the students were able to:
* Receive their class schedules.
* Learn about important school policies, procedures, and expectations.
* Meet administrators, counselors, and other staff members.
* Tour the building and locate their classrooms.
* Obtain student IDs
* Gain valuable information and tips to help make the transition to high school a successful one

The Wayne High School football team opens its home schedule tonight against St. Xavier. Some changes in game-day procedures that were implemented last year will remain in place; others have been modified. Please read below to ensure you will encounter no surprises on Friday nights.
* Ticket sales begin at 6 p.m., when the entry gates open.
* Ticket prices for regular season home games are $10 for adults, $9 for students
* Ticket sales are limited and will end when the designated limit is reached.
* The only students allowed entry will be those from the two competing schools. You will be asked to show your student identification card when purchasing a ticket. No refunds will be given to anyone who purchased a student ticket without displaying valid identification.
* There is no re-entry after entering the stadium.
* Gates will close at the conclusion of halftime.
* Backpacks and duffel bags are prohibited. Diaper bags, purses, and other small bags are subject to search upon entry.
* Parking is $2, cash only.
* There is a separate visitors entrance near the far end of the parking lot. Visiting fans should purchase their tickets at the visitors entrance.
* Greater Western Ohio Conference (GWOC) passes will be accepted for admission.

* Monday, August 31, 4 p.m. (Grades 1-6)
* Thursday, September 10, noon (Kindergarten)
* Monday, August 31, 4 p.m. (Preschool)

The Huber Heights Police Division is providing free safety instruction this week to incoming kindergarten students through its Safety Town program. Police officials said they have been providing this instruction for about 10 years, including the last four at Valley Forge Elementary School. Students learn about traffic, bicycle, bus, and fire safety, stranger awareness, and how to call 911 in an emergency. Instruction is provided through hands-on learning and interactive lessons.
