At last nights Monday fire training, one of groups worked on ladder truck placement and set up. Several of our drivers took turns with Truck 1 and spotted the apparatus to maximize the use of the aerial during fire ground operations. Working these skills in a non-emergency environment helps reinforce the muscle memory when under pressure at a fire. And we even caught a water flow alarm right after drill was done!

We have seen a heard a common question as to why are only City of Hudson residents are being surveyed about a possible referendum? He is a brief explanation on how the decision was made.

Earlier this spring, the Advisory Joint Fire Board (which includes representatives from each community served by the Hudson Fire Department) discussed the identified need for additional full-time staff and how best to engage the community regarding the future of fire services.

The Board opted unanimously to move forward with a City-wide survey in the City of Hudson.

Ultimately, the City is responsible for Fire Department personnel, including hiring decisions. Input from City residents was deemed a necessary first step in understanding community service preferences by the Board.

The survey is open through Monday, June 8. Results will be compiled and shared publicly at the Monday, June 15, Common Council meeting. Based on those results, the Fire Department will continue conversations with each of the communities we serve relative to staffing structure.

We have also been notified that some address is the City of Hudson did not receive the survey. If you live in the City of Hudson and have not received a copy, contact the Fire Department at 715-386-5861 for a survey code and then go to www.Survey2000.com and enter the unique survey code.

Work with an independent educational research firm to use or customize our benchmarked survey to improve your staff engagement, retention, and organizational performance.

Today is a bittersweet but exciting day for our department. We’re welcoming a new leader while also celebrating an incredible career shift for someone who has given so much to our team.

Please join us in congratulating Chris Marzolf on his promotion to the full-time position of Assistant Chief 2. Chris has been a dedicated member of our department for the past eight years and brings valuable experience from his years in the Maine fire service and his strong safety background. He’ll be stepping into the role of Training and Special Operations Chief, and we couldn’t be more confident in his leadership. Congratulations, Chris!

We also want to recognize Jeff “Skinny” Dabruzzi, who has chosen to step down from the Chief 2 position and transition into the role of Chief’s Aide. Saying that Skinny has forgotten more about firefighting than most of us will ever know might still be an understatement. After more than 37 years as Chief 2, his impact on this department and our community is immeasurable. Skinny, thank you for your dedication, your leadership, and everything you’ve put into this place.
