Hudson Fire SAFE educators FF Cam Bower and FF Jon Nemergut, along with Deputy Harrington were pleased to visit the Hudson MA Senior Center yesterday for a safety presentation.

A variety of topics were covered in the presentation, including maintaining smoke detectors, fire prevention and avoiding trips and falls in the home. We also went over the importance of keeping an up to date โ€œFile of Lifeโ€ nearby in the event of a medical emergency. These provide crucial information to first responders in a timely manner.

We appreciate the opportunity to spend some time discussing these safety tips.

๐Ÿš’ Building for the Future ๐Ÿš’

Today, members of Hudson Firefighters Local 1713 took another step toward enhancing our training capabilities by laying out the future placement of shipping containers that will become our new training yard.

Once complete, this customizable training facility will provide a realistic environment for firefighters to sharpen critical skills, including:
๐Ÿ”ฅ Live fire training
๐Ÿ’ฆ Hose movement and deployment
๐Ÿš’ Pump operations
๐Ÿ”Ž Search and rescue operations
๐Ÿ  Roof prop
๐Ÿš˜ Vehicle extrication area
๐Ÿ“ Outdoor classroom

Continuous training is the foundation of a strong fire department. This investment will help ensure our members are prepared to respond safely and effectively when our community needs us most.

Stay tuned as we continue transforming this vision into reality!

With even colder temps making their way through our area, please be sure to keep an eye on your pipes!

๐Ÿšฐ Inside Your Home
1. Let faucets drip ๐Ÿ’ง
A slow drip keeps water moving and helps prevent freezing.
2. Open cabinet doors ๐Ÿšช
This allows warm air to circulate around pipes under sinks.
3. Keep the heat on ๐Ÿ”ฅ
Even when youโ€™re away, keep your thermostat at a safe temperature.
4. Seal cracks & gaps ๐Ÿงฑ
Use caulk or foam around windows, doors, and pipe entry points.
โธป
๐ŸงŠ Protecting Outside Pipes & Faucets
1. Wrap all exposed pipes ๐Ÿงค
Use foam pipe insulation or heat tape on outdoor and garage pipes.
2. Install faucet covers ๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ
Insulated hose bib covers are inexpensive and very effective.
3. Disconnect garden hoses ๐ŸŒฟ
Drain hoses completely and store them indoors.
4. Shut off outdoor water valves ๐Ÿšฟ
If possible, turn off the water supply to exterior faucets and drain the line.
5. Check for leaks ๐Ÿ”
Small drips can freeze faster and cause bursts.
โธป
๐Ÿšจ Extra Cold Weather Tips
โ€ข Know where your main water shut-off valve is located
โ€ข Check pipes before and after hard freezes
โ€ข If a pipe freezes, do not use open flames to thaw it โŒ๐Ÿ”ฅIf your pipes are already frozen, be sure to thaw them SLOWLY! Trying to thaw too fast will result in burst pipes!
