Memorial Day is a solemn reminder to pause and honor the service members who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. We reflect on their bravery, their dedication, and the profound cost of the freedoms we enjoy. We also keep Gold Star families close in our thoughts, recognizing the enduring loss they carry and the strength they show every day.

One of the most meaningful ways we can pay tribute to the fallen is by supporting one another and continuing the mission of service in our own communities. I am deeply thankful for the Veteran Service Organizations across St. Croix County, including the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, that work tirelessly to honor those we have lost while caring for veterans and their families today.

To every veteran and military family in our County, thank you. Your dedication, resilience, and commitment continue to inspire us. The St. Croix County Veterans Service Office remains committed to serving you this Memorial Day and throughout the year.

— Phillip Landgraf, St. Croix County Veterans Services Director

There has been an increase in Salmonella cases in Wisconsin linked to backyard poultry, including chickens and ducks. Children under age 5 are especially at risk for serious illness because their immune systems are still developing. Help keep your family safe with these simple precautions:

✅ Wash your hands with soap and water after touching birds, eggs, or anything in their environment
✅ Keep poultry and poultry supplies outside the home
✅ Do not kiss or snuggle birds
✅ Avoid eating or drinking around poultry
✅ Supervise children carefully around flocks
✅ Collect eggs often and throw away cracked eggs
✅ Use dedicated shoes or boots in the coop area

Even healthy-looking birds can carry Salmonella germs. Symptoms may include diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps.

May is Foster Care Awareness Month! 💙This is a great time to recognize the children, youth, foster families, kinship caregivers, respite providers, and professionals whose lives are connected through foster care. We’re grateful for those who open their hearts and homes to children in need and provide the stability, support, and encouragement that can make a lasting difference in a child’s life.

Foster parents and respite providers come from all walks of life — what matters most is the commitment to providing a safe, supportive, and caring environment for a child.
