Yes, that is the new Taste of Home Christmas book flanked by a Mahalia Jackson biography and three other adult nonfiction books. In "The Rise and Fall of the Artificial State," Jill Lepore examines the rise of an "Artificial State," arguing that technology, data, artificial intelligence, and billionaire technocracy are undermining democracy, human self-government, and community. She traces the historical roots and consequences of this transformation, including environmental damage, and argues that the Artificial State is not inevitable and can be dismantled through understanding its origins and structures.

In 1995, Dolly Parton started mailing books to children in her home county to inspire children to love reading in honor of her dad, who couldn’t read or write.

That idea lives here too. Every month, 81 children in Hudson find a book in the mailbox — because of neighbors who fund it, volunteers who run it, and a woman from Sevier County, TN who started it all.
