We want to give a great big Thank You to Godfrey Farms and Drew Godfrey for hosting our training last night. Drew helped our Team learn some of the in's and out's for safety as we trained for farm emergencies. Our crews had a really good hands on learning experience. Its people, families and businesses like the Godfreys that help make our Team better each day.

It's Fire Prevention Month, and LARA, along with State Fire Marshal Tom Hughes, are calling on Michiganders to reduce the risk of fire in their homes.

Changes in home construction, furnishings, and other materials found in our homes over the last several decades have made it possible for fires to burn hotter, spread faster, and produce more toxic smoke. In modern fires, people may only have 3 minutes or less to escape a home fire.

Fire Drills aren't just for Elementary School. Parents, use this month to go over some safe practices, know two ways out, and have a safe meeting place for your family in case of a fire. Help your family members to be familiar with the sounds and sights of fire alarms so they can take the safe actions and not be overwhelmed in the case of a real event. Stay safe out there.

Fire drills can be stressful for students with anxiety or auditory sensitivities. When working with schools, encourage educators to help students become familiar with the fire drill routine before the alarm sounds. Extra practice, headphones, and a social story like the one shown here can help prepare students. We were notified that there was a complaint filed to the City of this post being a jab at the council and possibly manager. Let us reassure you it was not. This post was made in support of our fellow fire departments around the Country that have faced such severe funding problems that they have had to close their doors and also to show what the manufacturing industry has done to the cost of our equipment which has crippled so many communities. All you have to do is ask us.

This is pretty much 100% correct and the general public needs to know the cost of outfitting firefighters. Elected officials need to understand this isnt arbitrary, its mandatory and enforcable through OSHA and the Courts if anyone gets hurt or complaints are filed these numbers could seem tiny compared to fines and court findings. Combine these cost with the cost of a firefighters training and continuing education, cost of tools and equipment, and cost of apparatus and you can start to see one of the reasons why so many Departments around the United States are closing down.
