The "Honor A Veteran" Program is a program through which families, friends and the community can honor a deceased Columbia County veteran in a public recognition ceremony for the service they rendered to their Country. The American Flag is the primary symbol for this honor. Ceremonies are conducted at 9 am. on the fourth Monday of each month from March through November at the Columbia County Offic

e Building, 401 State Street, Hudson, NY. The Flag presented at that ceremony in honor of the recognized Veteran will be flown outside the County Office building for 30 days and then it is presented to the next of kin of the honored Veteran. To be eligible, a Veteran must be deceased 30 days or more and must have resided in Columbia County. The Veteran must have served in the Armed Forces of the United States, must have been Honorably Discharged or died while in the service or was declared Missing in Action (MIA), or served in the Merchant Marine or as a Special Civilian Employee on "Active Duty" during the period December 7, 1941 through August 15, 1945. There are no other specific service dates or length of service required. Both War and Peacetime Service are Honored. Applications are available at the Columbia County Veterans Office located at 389 Fairview Ave, Hudson. If you would like an application mailed contact Vince at 518.851.2946

Today, his great grandson played Taps, on his great grandfather's trumpet (see live video on this page) Thank you Fred for your service to your county and to your community.
