Critical Incident : Vehicle Pursuit leads to arrest
On 6-6-18 at 1803 a Weld County Deputy conducted a traffic stop with a yellow 1985 Ford pickup at WCR 43.5 and WCR 46.5. The driver, Joseph Hall, initially stopped, then backed up and intentionally rammed the Deputy's patrol vehicle. Joseph then fled from the scene and a vehicle pursuit was initiated. At 1821 hours the Weld County Sheriff's Office discontinued thier pursuit so Joseph would slow down and not endanger innocent civilians.
At 1848 hours La Salle PD Officers observed the truck and followed it southbound on Hwy 85 from Crystal River Rd. Once in Ft Lupton the Ft Lupton Police Department initiated a second pursuit. At 1905 hours they deployed spike strips, which caused 2 of the trucks tires to deflate. The pursuit continued, and FLPD Officers asked for a Pursuit Intervention Technique (PIT) Certified Officer to respond. One of our Marshal's, being certified in the maneuver, responded to assist. The pursuit led to WCR 6, just west of Hwy 85. At 1919 hours the Marshal conducted a PIT maneuver to the driver's side of the truck, disabling it and causing it to spin into the ditch.
Joseph began running through the field. The Marshal drove through a barbed wire fence, caught up to Joseph, and along with FLPD Officers chased him into a nearby river. Once surrounded Joseph eventually gave up and came out, where he was taken into custody. Joseph had 2 Felony warrants for his arrest, was on Parole, had a Revoked driver's license, and was charged with several more Felonies relating to today's incident.
Sadly this is the same vehicle that is fresh from the body shop after the last PIT manuever. We will be filing for restitution with the courts to finance the repair of the vehicle.
Thank you to the Ft Lupton Police Department for helping this incident come to a safe end for everyone.
