This past Wednesday, we had the pleasure of attending the Almond Board of California's Crack-Out Day at Merced College, where industry leaders gathered to discuss emerging almond varieties and the future of almond quality.

We were especially proud to see our own John Arellano join the panel discussion, "How to Have a Good Conversation Before Planting: What Does That Look Like?" alongside Dave Phippen of Travaille & Phippen and Brandon Ribiero of Ribiero Brothers.

Thank you to the Almond Board of California for bringing together growers, handlers, nurseries, and industry partners for an insightful day of learning and collaboration.

Check out these "Moon Unit" containerized Yorizane almond trees, planted at 54" instead of 40" to allow for higher suckering and topping. These tall-format trees create an excellent structure, enable growers to use off-ground harvesters, and help ensure the longevity of your orchard with minimal pruning! Trellised almond orchards could serve as a cost-effective alternative to traditional staked orchards. Trellis wires are great for resisting high winds, are reusable between orchards, and do a fantastic job of keeping trees straight all the way down the row.

Switching from vine crops to almonds? You might already have the materials to make this a very affordable part of your orchard design!
