Thank you to Hugo resident and Scentsy Fragrance Consultant Tracy Colbeth for donating new Scentsy stuffed animals to HFD. We use these stuffed animals for calming and comforting kids or people with special needs when there is an emergency that they are a part of.
This isn’t the first or second time Tracy has done this for us. Along with doing this for the department response she also donates these stuffed animals to our Toy and Food Drive in December.
Thank you Tracy for supporting our community!

While on their way to Fire Apparatus Operator Class in Lake Elmo this morning, two Hugo Firefighters Emily and Dalton found a lost dog at an intersection. They checked him for contact information and a microchip with nothing found. They contacted Washington County Animal Control and Emily checked a lost pet page and found the owners information. They were able to turn the lost dog and contact information over to make the reunion.
Great job Emily and Dalton!

At approximately 11:15 on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, the Hugo Fire Department was dispatched to commercial building on fire near Hwy. 61 and 130th Street N. Upon arrival, smoke and flames were visible coming from the side of the building. Auto aid was received from White Bear Lake, Forest Lake, Lino Lakes, and Spring Lake Park-Blaine-Mounds View fire departments. Washington County Deputies and M Health Fairview Ambulance also assisted on scene. All occupants evacuated safely and no injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is the result of sparks from a grinder that a contractor was using to work on the exterior of the building. The fire caught the insulation in the wall on fire, and an employee used a fire extinguisher to try and stop the fire from spreading. Unfortunately, the fire spread inside the concealed walls sue to the wind. Fire crews were quickly able to stop the spread of the fire, but the unit involved sustained significant smoke, water, and fire damage. Fire crews were on scene for approximately three hours.
