At approximately 11:15 on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, the Hugo Fire Department was dispatched to commercial building on fire near Hwy. 61 and 130th Street N. Upon arrival, smoke and flames were visible coming from the side of the building. Auto aid was received from White Bear Lake, Forest Lake, Lino Lakes, and Spring Lake Park-Blaine-Mounds View fire departments. Washington County Deputies and M Health Fairview Ambulance also assisted on scene. All occupants evacuated safely and no injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is the result of sparks from a grinder that a contractor was using to work on the exterior of the building. The fire caught the insulation in the wall on fire, and an employee used a fire extinguisher to try and stop the fire from spreading. Unfortunately, the fire spread inside the concealed walls sue to the wind. Fire crews were quickly able to stop the spread of the fire, but the unit involved sustained significant smoke, water, and fire damage. Fire crews were on scene for approximately three hours.
