Jimmy has spent 40 years serving those around him—showing up day and night when people needed help the most. His impact goes far beyond the calls he’s run. Jimmy has helped train and shape generations of responders, leaving a lasting mark on emergency services in our area.

After the Cherokee Nation opened the EMS building in Hulbert, Jimmy became a familiar face there, continuing to do what he’s always done—taking care of this community.

Now, Jimmy and his family are facing a difficult road ahead.

It’s our turn to show up for him.

If you’re able, please consider donating to help support Jimmy and his family during this time. If you’re not able to give, we ask that you share this post and keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

Hulbert takes care of its own—let’s rally around one of our very best.

Latest updates from NWS Tulsa has storms in our area approx 9-10 pm. Looking like the main threat is going to be heavy rain possible flooding and potential for strong winds. So far the tornado chances remain low but as you all know weather around here can change in an instant. Shelters will be open if you feel you need them and if it looks line storms will be severe or tornado risk increases we will be out monitoring the weather.

Be weather aware! April 1-6 storm chances with tornadic potential increases for our area. Be proactive not reactive, discuss plans with your family. Make arrangements with family members now for those that may be bed bound or require extra time to get to shelter. Know where your closest shelters are or what to do if you need to shelter in your home, like the interior most space away from windows and doors if possible. We will try to post weather updates as they get updated but there’s a lot of info available from National weather service (NWS) apps and sites as well as news media outlets

Good evening folks! Here is a copy of the state guidelines that our county commissioners must follow when considering a burn ban. This document also outlines fines and imprisonment for those that violate burn bans. You can look up Oklahoma State Court Network…Oklahoma Statutes Citiationized Title 2 Agriculture go to article 16 Forest Fire prevention section 16-26 . The highlights basically outlined state that a majority of commissioners can call an emergency meeting which still requires notice and the criteria mentioned in article 16 must be met. 1) severe, extreme, or exceptional drought conditions as determined by NOAA pursuit to its criteria 2) no more than 1/2” of precipitation is forecast for next three days and either of the following A) fire occurrence is greater than normal for the season and or initial attack on a significant number of wild fires has been unsuccessful due to extreme fire behavior. B ) more than 20% of wild fires in the county have been caused by escaped debris or controlled burns or 3) temps for any days in next three days forecast over 100 degrees.

I’ve included screen shots of the statute kinda crude but wasn’t sure how to due it any other way my apologies but I wanted you to be able to see it as it’s written. As you can see it’s a lot it’s not just a common sense hey it’s dry let’s issue a ban ..these rules have to be followed info verified and then a meeting has to be called and it’s issued for 14 days at a time. It can be ended early if precip or conditions warrant or can be extended through another meeting. If the new legislation passes it would be a faster simpler more as needed way the commissioners can put a burn ban in place but for now this is what we have. The commissioners are good to reach out to county chiefs for input and planning.

Controlled Burns sub 4 and 4a 1-6 and 4b,c,d
1 ) your name and phone number
2) address where you are burning
3) purpose of the burn
4) list of fire depts and sheriffs office required to be notified
5) List of ADJOINING land owners REQUIRED to be notified pursuant to Section 16-28.2 of this title
6) description of fire breaks used to define the boundaries of the burn
7) statement of prescribed weather conditions
8 ) ignition plan

B ) you must keep a copy of your burn plan on site
C ) must notify 911 dispatch so sheriff office and fire departments can be notified

Fines: section 10 states any person convicted of violating the provisions in this subsection shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and subject to a fine of not more than 500 dollars or imprisonment of not more than 1 year or both fine and prison

Section 9 provisions of this subsection may be enforced by any law enforcement officer

During a burn ban it is illegal to burn, during a red flag warning it’s strongly discouraged.

Hey folks Josh Littledave Assistant Chief with your favorite Hulbert Vol Fire ✋🏼 There have many messages, comments and some confusion regarding Red Flag warning, Burn Bans, and a few other topics. I am in the process of putting this information together and want to make sure that we are putting out the most accurate information regarding these topics. Look for an updated post soon! There is a specific set of guidelines and criteria that the county commissioners must go by when considering a burn ban that most are unaware of, it’s a process. There is legislation being moved along that will if it passes will simplify that process and allow our commissioner’s the ability to issue bans faster and easier.

We’ve had several questions about the difference between a Red Flag Warning and a Burn Ban, so here’s a simple breakdown:

🚩 Red Flag Warning
This means weather conditions are hot, dry, and windy — fires can start easily and spread VERY quickly.
➡️ Not a law, but a strong warning to avoid burning.

🚫 Burn Ban
This means NO burning allowed.
➡️ This is enforced by law and can result in fines.

Simple way to remember:
🚩 Red Flag = Be Careful
🚫 Burn Ban = Don’t Do It

With current dry conditions, we strongly encourage everyone to use caution and avoid any outdoor burning.

As always, if you plan a controlled burn (when allowed), please notify dispatch ahead of time.

Stay safe, Hulbert.

At approximately 10:30 PM on 3/25/26, Hulbert Volunteer Fire Department responded to reports of an outside fire near 751 and Shady Grove Rd. Upon arrival, crews determined that the fire had spread to neighboring property and was burning out of control.

Crews began initial attack, building fire lines and focusing on stopping the fire’s spread. At approximately 12:30 AM on 3/26/26, it was decided to request a forestry crew to help increase resources and take advantage of rising humidity to get the fire contained ahead of the forecasted Red Flag fire weather conditions for Thursday and Friday.

HFD continued working until the Oklahoma Forestry dozer crew arrived at approximately 3:00 AM. After a thorough briefing with the forestry crew, a solid plan was put into place, and Oklahoma Forestry took control of the fire. HFD remained on scene until approximately 4:00 AM.

Oklahoma Forestry remained on scene throughout the day, reinforcing fire lines and cutting breaks. A second forestry dozer crew, along with four members of an Oklahoma National Guard special unit utilized for wildland fire suppression (hand crews), assisted throughout the day to ensure the fire’s progress was stopped and the fire was contained.

Hulbert Fire Department is very thankful for our partners at Oklahoma Forestry—they do outstanding work—as well as our Oklahoma National Guard members who were willing to show up and strengthen our wildland firefighting efforts.

HFD would also like to thank Country Corner for providing a hot meal this evening. The crews were very appreciative.

Forestry estimates the total burned area to be approximately 600 acres.
