BREAKING NEWS:
Our pickiest non-releasable wildlife ambassadors have unionized and officially decided that medication in bowls is “absolutely not,” but medication on a popsicle stick?

"Five‑star dining!" red fox, Ruby, comments.

"Michelin‑level cuisine" praises senior red fox, Roxie.

We could not get a comment from striped skunk, Luna, as she tried taking the stick, but we believe she may have approved.

A lot goes on behind the scenes at your Three Forks Nature Center to ensure our wildlife ambassadors receive the best care. One important part of that care is medication training — a type of behavioral conditioning that teaches animals to voluntarily take their meds through positive reinforcement and predictable routines.

Because they may learn to avoid certain smells (like medication) or objects (like bowls that smell like medication), we mix their meds into a high‑value treat puree and offer it on a neutral tool, such as a popsicle stick. To build trust, the stick is first introduced through enrichment so the animal associates it with something positive.

They come forward on their own, lick it up, and stay healthy — with less stress, more trust, and full autonomy in their care - and a chance to get cute pictures.
