It has been a great weekend of education and work at Middle Fork Bottoms!

Last night, a family got to learn about all sorts of bugs that live in the park, and a pair of sisters got to cast a spinner reel for the first time!

This morning, a volunteer helped removed a TON of unwanted plants from the flowerbed. Is looking nice and clean!

While working, we got to see a number of cool insects making use of the space, including a monarch butterfly which stopped for a quick drink along its journey!

These sorts of programs are some of the most important work that happens in Tennessee State Parks, inspiring and nurturing the next generation of activists, conservationists, and future park rangers.

Be on the lookout for more programs coming up, including our Labor Day schedule which will be uploaded later today!

Earlier today, SIR Layce presented at Cypress Grove Research Forum. She has spent some of her time at Middle Fork Bottoms conducting a Bumblebee survey and establishing the relationship between bee populations and forest canopy density within the park.

Her work this summer shows the importance of fostering stewardship through the SIR program, and we couldn’t be more excited to see where she’ll end up in her future endeavors.

Layce will have a few more programs and volunteer opportunities in the next few weeks before returning to her undergraduate studies, so be sure to sign up for those while you can!

Earlier this week, Middle Fork Bottoms staff took to the river to explore the possibility of future recreational opportunities, and it did not disappoint! We were greeted with exceptional weather and plenty of wildlife. It’s important for the people telling the story of this river to be able to experience it up close, and we hope to be able to share that experience in the future.

Today’s volunteer event has been canceled due to weather conditions. We appreciate your willingness to help and hope to see you at the next one!
