🚨 ATTENTION, HUMBOLDT COUNTY: SCHOOL IS BACK. 🚨

Tomorrow, the buses return. The kids return. The bicycles return. And apparently, so does everyone’s sudden inability to remember what a school bus stop means. 😂

Please slow down, watch for buses, and give kids walking and riding bikes the extra space and attention they deserve.
Kids are unpredictable. Their parents are tired. Our deputies are watching. 👀
Let’s make it through the first day without anyone having to explain to us why they thought passing a stopped school bus was a good idea.

Slow down. Pay attention. Get everyone home safely. 🚌🚲🎒

The men and women of the DMPD share their support for the Iowa State Patrol and the community’s that they serve. We work closely with their troopers, especially during this time of year, and we appreciate the partnership and friendships.

We send our prayers for healing and a smooth recovery for the trooper injured yesterday in a shooting incident.

Thank you to all officers, here and away, who show up every day to take the stand between you and danger.

The administration phone lines at the Humboldt County Law Enforcement Center are up and running.

Our 911 lines were never impacted and we were able to take all calls for service.

…but apparently he has a longer tenure than our entire evidence room. 😂

âš¡Power is back on in the county!!âš¡

Attention! Power is out in the communities of Pioneer, Bode, Rutland and Gilmore City, with approximately 852 people without power at this time. EMA Bissell has no timeline of when power will be restored. We will update when we receive more information.

Dakota City

3rd St N between Main St and 1st Ave N is closed due to a chemical spill from a semi-truck.

A 55 gallon drum was punctured when the truck was being loaded in Des Moines. When the truck stopped in Dakota City the driver noted the leak and called for assistance.

Humboldt County EMA was notified and arrived on scene shortly after 11am. Crews on scene had already put sand over the chemical to stop the spread.

At this time there is no danger to the public. It is just advised to stay away from the area so crews can clean up the spill. The anticipated clean up should be completed around 6-7pm.

Parents of the children at the local daycare center have been notified as has the Courthouse Officials. An Alert Iowa message was also sent to subscribers.

With the current wet weather pattern we are in please take care while driving.

Not only do we want you to turn around when you see water impacting a roadway, but slow down on our highways. Water is pooling on roadways and at higher speeds it does not take much to cause hydroplaning of your car. It is easy to loose control and veer into danger.

So turn around don't drown and slow down.
