City of Humboldt Right-of-Way Tree Inventory and Removal Program – Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

In 2023, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources provided funding to the City of Humboldt to complete an Urban Forestry Management Plan, which included an inventory of all trees within City right-of-way (ROW). Humboldt has utilized this plan as a way to identify, prioritize, and remove dead trees within City property.

Humboldt has approximately 2,800 trees on City property and is actively working to remove the trees in poor condition as well as ash trees infected with the Emerald Ash Boer.

The City conducts an annual tree removal project based on available funding. For the upcoming fiscal year (July 1, 2026 – June 30, 2027) the City allocated $100,000 for this project.

If you have further question please contact City Hall at 515-332-3435.

The City of Humboldt and Humboldt County Secondary Roads have started a maintenance project on 16th Avenue North near the intersection with Jerry Hatcher Road. Crews will be milling out part of the road, adjusting connection with the Three Rivers Trail, and installing Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) to improve the condition of the road.

With the nicer weather here, the City of Humboldt would like to remind residents of City Code 135.03:

It is unlawful to throw or deposit any glass, bottles, nails, tacks, wire, cans, trash, garbage, rubbish, litter, leaves, grass, or other debris onto any street or alley. These materials can be washed into storm sewers and cause clogs.

We’ve noticed an increase in grass clippings being blown or left in the street while mowing. Please help keep our storm drains clear and our community clean by keeping clippings off of the City streets and alleys.

Thank you for doing your part!
