πŸ”₯ Wildfire Prevention Starts Before You Hit the Road πŸ”₯

Headed out with a camper, RV, or toy hauler?
Before you go:

βœ… Check wheel bearings and brakes
βœ… Inspect tires for damage and proper inflation
βœ… Make sure safety chains aren't dragging
βœ… Secure your load
βœ… Carry a fire extinguisher

A dragging chain, overheated bearing, or blown tire can spark a wildfire in seconds.

Take 5 minutes to inspect your trailer. It could prevent a wildfire and protect our communities, forests, and firefighters.

πŸš’ Help keep Montana green and wildfire-free this summer.

One spark is all it takes. 🌲πŸ”₯

A tragic reminder of why evacuation orders matter.

According to the Spokane County Sheriff's Office, a person who reportedly refused to evacuate during a rapidly advancing wildfire is presumed deceased after human remains were discovered following the fire.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends, first responders, and community affected by this heartbreaking loss.

Wildfires are unpredictable, fast-moving, and unforgiving. When evacuation orders are issued, they are not made lightly. They are based on current conditions, fire behavior, weather forecasts, and the best information available to protect lives.

When residents choose not to evacuate, they not only place themselves at extreme risk, but they can also put firefighters and emergency responders in danger. Crews may be forced to divert resources and enter hazardous conditions in an attempt to locate, notify, or rescue those who remain behind.

No firefighter wants to leave anyone behind, and every responder will do everything possible to protect lives. The safest outcome for everyone is for residents to heed evacuation orders immediately when they are issued.

Please have a plan, stay informed, and be prepared to leave when asked. Property can be replaced. Lives cannot.

A fire that spread from the forested Beacon Hill area into subdivisions near Camp Sekani destroyed at least 15 homes and some people have been reported missing.

We are getting excited for our biggest annual fundraiser of the year. This Sat and Sun 9-5 we will be hosting a rummage sale at the Martin City Firehall. Buy some raffle tickets for a chance to win this amazing Eagle Quilt made by 1 of our Auxiliary members. We have something for everyone. Lots of tools, toys, furniture, kitchen wares, etc. The Auxiliary has been working hard baking goodies for the bake sale. They will also have a Hotdog meal deal. So please come down and help our firefighter out. If you have anything you would like to donate to the sale, message us here.

This afternoon, Hungry Horse Volunteer Fire Department and Martin City Fire Department responded to a motor vehicle collision involving a passenger vehicle and a semi-truck near Marias Pass Summit on U.S. Highway 2. Assisting agencies included Coram QRU, East Glacier Volunteer Fire Department , ALERT Air Ambulance, Glacier County Sheriff's Office , Glacier National Park, Montana Highway Patrol, Browning Tribal Police & Ambulance and Three Rivers Ambulance. Oh and we can't forget our amazing tow trucks from Bolsters Towing and Cliffs Towing.

This incident marks the second serious motor vehicle crash our department has responded to in the past two days. These calls serve as an important reminder of the hazards that can exist on our roadways, particularly in mountain corridors where changing conditions, traffic, and reduced reaction times can quickly lead to emergencies.

We would like to remind all motorists to exercise caution when approaching emergency scenes. Slow down, remain alert, and follow the directions of law enforcement and emergency personnel. Emergency responders often work only feet from moving traffic, and a moment of inattention can place both responders and victims at risk.

The safety of everyone on our roadways depends on drivers remaining attentive, patient, and prepared to reduce speed whenever emergency vehicles or incident scenes are present.

We thank all responding agencies for their teamwork and dedication in serving our communities.

This Memorial Day, we pause to honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country.

Memorial Day is more than the start of summer or a long weekend; it is a day of reflection, gratitude, and remembrance for those who gave their lives protecting the freedoms we enjoy every day.

Their courage, selflessness, and dedication will never be forgotten.

As members of the Hungry Horse Volunteer Fire Department, we understand the meaning of service, sacrifice, and standing together as a community.

Today, we encourage everyone to take a moment to remember our fallen heroes and the families who continue to carry their legacy forward.

From all of us at the Hungry Horse Volunteer Fire Department, thank you to those who served and especially to those who gave everything for this nation.

May we never forget.

Congratulations Kirk Katzenmeyer.

After decades of fighting fires, we celebrate you for all the late nights and early mornings, missed dinners, birthdays, Christmas days and other holidays, this now is time to relax and enjoy.

Thank you for leading from the front and helping train many of our department along the way as well.

πŸ₯žπŸš’ Can you smell that?!

That’s pancakes hot off the grill up at the Martin City Fire Hall! The griddle is fired up and the crew is slinging pancakes, breakfast favorites, and plenty of good coffee. β˜•πŸ”₯

Get up here before they’re gone β€” your stomach will thank you later. Bring your family, bring your friends, and come enjoy a great breakfast with your local firefighters!

You definitely won’t regret it. 😎πŸ₯ž

In the light of day, there remains no visible sign of smoke or fire on the mountainside of Columbia where the fire was observed last night.

The overnight storm system brought approximately 0.3 to 0.5 inches of rainfall to the area. Additionally, the location where the fire was initially reported has snow still covering the ground.

We appreciate the community members who reported the incident.
