What an experience. I have absolutely loved serving the town of Huntersville and I’m thankful for the people I have met along the way.

I am obviously sad at the outcome but I’m cheering on some friends that will now represent our town. Good luck to all those who will be serving our amazing town over the next two years!

My kid said that now I belong to them again and I’ll take that win in the day!
Have an amazing day!

Standing at Early Voting, I’m seeing a lot of straight-ticket voters coming in. And it’s sad to me because I spent my first term trying to walk the walk AND talk the talk.

Showing up for, listening to, and giving a voice to residents is not a blue nor red ticket promise. Actually, I became Unaffiliated because I found it better to help residents without a party pushing me in this or that direction.

Just a few of the many things I accomplished in my first term include:

✅ Using $300K of Town funds to get a necessary traffic light at 21 and Northdowns;

✅ Worked with Hamptons neighbors to get any concessions they could from the by-right NorthState apartments on Sam Furr;

✅ Voted against the ordinances and Plans to help Plum Creek residents avoid the neighborhood connection road to the new Hamlet development;

✅ Voted against EPCON on Beatties Ford;

✅ Voted against the Birkdale rezoning request after spending hours with residents for their concerns;

✅ Voted against rezoning rural to highway commercial for an outdoor recreational facility. I got a lot of flak for that from other commissioners, but for me, the location wasn’t right;

✅ One of the first things I did was get to work removing the unlimited density zoning for downtown, call TOD.

I’m no developer’s friend. But that isn’t the point. The point is I have represented you, the residents, as promised. My record and my responses prove it.

Please don’t forget about me when you vote. I’m not on a blue nor red ticket.

I’m Amber Kovacs, and I’m asking to be re-elected.

Over the past two days, I’ve been spending the morning with second graders from Huntersville Elementary at Townhall. It was so great to see them come in, and Mayor Bales run mock meetings for them. Some of the questions the kids asked when they played Commissioner for the day were outstanding and quite insightful. I love being able to collaborate with CMS! Not much better than getting to enrich education and see young kids excited about government!

I was especially excited to see this human who got to sit in his mama’s seat during his turn as Mini Commissioner Kovacs😍

We wanted to take a moment to share a somber but important update with all of you. One of our officers, Lt. Andrew Dempski, recently faced a truly tragic event — a house fire that has left the Dempski family without their home. Lt. Dempski has been a pillar of our community, tirelessly serving and protecting us day in and day out. He has worked for HPD for more than 25 years.

Now the Dempski family and their loved ones need our support. We can't imagine the heartache and loss they must be going through, having lost their home and possessions in this devastating fire. But it's moments like these where our community can truly shine, showing our unwavering support and unity. Two of Lt. Dempski's sons work for the Town of Huntersville as well.

Many of you have reached out to offer help, so we are trying to facilitate and streamline those efforts by getting the word out about how you can utilize the proper channels to provide support if you wish to do so. Right now, the Dempski Family needs gift cards to local restaurants, big box stores, or Visa money cards. If you wish to donate these items, they can be dropped off at our PD headquarters, located at 9630 Julian Clark Avenue.

In addition, a GoFundMe account has been set up by one of Lt. Dempski's outside family members. This is linked below.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Dempski family during this trying time. Stay strong. The community is here for all of you.
