‼️ SPARK 6/18/26 ‼️

Despite the unpredictable weather, I am glad we’re no longer in the severe threat zone.

SPARK will take place at Memorial Park tomorrow.

Unfortunately, the Huntington County EMA is no longer able to present in the morning. Instead, we'll use that time to play, have fun, and burn off some energy.

In the afternoon, we will have a special guest presenter. Jamie Smith will be bringing farm ducks and chickens for us to meet. We’ll learn about life on the farm and discover some fun facts about these animals.

Drop-off and pick-up will take place at the large pavilion. As a reminder, sign-in will begin at 9:00 AM. Please be patient when entering and exiting the parking lot, and do not drive on the grass.

Please note: There is no SPARK on Friday, June 19, due to a city-observed holiday.

As for tomorrow (Wednesday), we have been in contact with the Huntington Emergency Management team and are closely monitoring the latest forecasts. Current predictions call for severe storms, including the potential for tornadoes, damaging winds, large hail, and flooding.

For the safety of our participants, staff, and families, we have made the decision to CANCEL SPARK on Wednesday, June 17. These decisions are never easy, but we wanted to provide families with as much notice as possible to make any necessary childcare arrangements.

We will continue to monitor the forecast and weather conditions for Thursday and will provide updates as needed.

🟧🟥 WEDNESDAY – June 17
Huntington County remains under an Enhanced Risk (Level 3 of 5) for severe weather Wednesday afternoon through early Thursday morning.
Timeline: 12:00 PM Wednesday – 2:00 AM Thursday EDT
Potential Hazards:
• Damaging winds
• Large hail
• Flooding
• Tornadoes possible
Confidence in severe weather is moderate, though storm development will depend on how earlier activity evolves throughout the day.
⚠️ A Moderate Risk (Level 4 of 5) has now been introduced just a few counties away from Huntington County. This means confidence is increasing for a more significant severe weather event somewhere in the region Wednesday evening and overnight. Any shift in the forecast could bring higher impacts closer to our area.

💦 SPARK Week 2 (Part 2)

To make an already great week even sweeter, our participants were treated to freezy pops courtesy of Faith Community Church.

A huge THANK YOU to Faith Community Church for your generosity and support of our SPARK program. The freezy pops were the perfect way to beat the heat, and our campers absolutely loved them! 🍧☀️

Between the hot temperatures, water fun, and refreshing treats, our campers found plenty of ways to stay cool while making summer memories. We are so grateful for community partners who help make SPARK such a special experience for our participants!

🌲☀️ SPARK Week 2 Recap (Part 1)☀️🌲

Week 2 of SPARK threw us a few weather-related curveballs—but we rolled with it and still had a fantastic week! Despite the heat, our campers stayed active, had fun, and made the most of every day outdoors.

On Friday, we wrapped up the week with an awesome presentation from the Indiana DNR. It was both educational and fun, giving our participants the chance to learn more about wildlife and conservation. One of the coolest parts was getting to look through thermal lenses and see heat signatures in action. The kids loved it... and honestly, so did I!

Thank you to the Indiana DNR for helping us end another great week of SPARK with an unforgettable outdoor adventure!

SPARK will be taking place at Drover Park tomorrow! The splash pad will remain open to the public; however, please be aware that there will be additional children in the area as our SPARK participants enjoy a day of water fun and activities.

SPARK 6-11-26

SPARK will continue as scheduled today. While we are currently under a heat advisory, we will be closely monitoring weather conditions throughout the day and adjusting plans as needed to ensure the safety of all participants and directors.

To help keep everyone safe in the heat, we will be requiring a water break every 20 minutes. Please send your child with a filled water bottle and sunscreen.

As always, the decision to send your child to SPARK is up to each parent or guardian. If you choose to have your child attend, we will take every precaution possible to provide a safe and enjoyable experience.
