We’re back with the final Countdown to Move-in tip, and it’s ALWAYS the most requested one… Know the unloading zones and parking locations. All information below is also available on the interactive campus map: https://www.marshall.edu/map/ 📲

Unloading Zones:
✅First Year North ➡️Henderson Center tarmac
✅First Year South and Twin Towers East ➡️sidewalk between the Towers and First Year South
✅Twin Towers West ➡️ sidewalk between the Towers and First Year South or 18th Street between Twin Towers West and the Holderby Hall demolition zone
✅Buskirk Hall ➡️Parking lot behind the Education Building
✅Commons (Gibson, Wellman, Willis, and Haymaker Halls) ➡️ parking lot on 6th Avenue across from Commons.

Pull up to the designated areas, unload items, and move vehicles to the labeled parking lots to keep things flowing in the drop off zones. Signs will be posted and MUPD will direct traffic during move-in 🚛

Parking is available on the university owned surface lots nearest to the residence halls. Please note that metered spaces along 6th Avenue and 18th Street have a two-hour limit that is enforced by the city’s parking authority 🅿️

This information will be also emailed to all residents 💻

We can’t wait Welcome the Herd Home this week🦬 🏠 💚

Today’s Countdown to Move-in tip is clean up correctly. When the unpacking begins, the packing material starts flying, and it’s easy for messes to pile up.  We recommend putting a few trash bags in your “open first box” to help you clean up as you go 🚮

Also, be sure that you’re taking trash and boxes outside to the appropriate disposal locations and not leaving them in the hallways. Dumpsters will be set up between First Year South and Twin Towers East and West, at the Marshall Commons, and near Buskirk Hall.  There’ll also be stations near these locations to place flattened cardboard boxes for recycling ♻️

Stacks of garbage bags and boxes in the buildings create trip hazards. Cleaning up correctly keeps you, your guests, and your neighbors safe 🗑️

Yesterday was about packing the essentials. Now we’re moving on to the opposite. Today’s Countdown to Move-in tip is know what not to pack.

Every year students arrive with items that are not allowed in the halls. Some of the most common offenders are:

🕯️Candles and candle warmers with halogen bulbs
🔌Extension cords, multiplug outlets, and furniture with outlets
🍳 Open heating elements like toasters, toaster ovens, and hot plates
🛴Electronic scooters with non-removable batteries

Not so fun fact, all the above are fire hazards 🔥

Knowing what not to pack keeps you and your neighbors safe. It also saves your family the trouble of having to transport not allowed items back home.

Check out the Residence Hall Guide to find more information about what you can and cannot bring to campus:https://www.marshall.edu/housing/files/2026/06/Residence-Hall-Guide-26-27-final.pdf
