Meet your community helpers at Fire Truck Storytime and Police Car Storytime, coming soon!

🚓 Police Car Storytime: Tuesday, Sept. 22 @ 10:30 a.m.

These storytimes will be held outdoors on our front patio. In case of rain, we will move indoors.

For adults and teens: discover the art of "kinusaiga," a traditional Japanese craft that involves "painting" with fabric.

Create your own unique mosaic with us at Make It Together, our monthly craft program. This program is always free and there is a different theme each month.

Join us for the evening session (Tuesday, 8/25 at 6 p.m.) or the morning session (Wednesday, 8/26 at 10 a.m.) to try your hand at this craft.

We can't wait until tomorrow's Tenderloin Fest! We'll be there with you enjoying the breaded pork tenderloin sandwich that is Huntington's legacy--as well as to sell some postcards.

Grab a postcard of the founders of Nick's Kitchen standing outside the first restaurant, or when the "Corned Beef & Cabbage" train derailed and went through the Mayne Grocery store in 1913. Even a couple replicas of c. 1900 postcards of downtown Huntington will be available, among other designs.

We'll sell 6 cards, all for $1/each, or you can buy all 6 for $5. We'll even let you fill out the postcard to send to a family member or friend from the Fest and we'll mail it for you ($1.50 for the card and stamp), so make sure you stop by and give us a visit!

Reminder: We are opening at 1 p.m. tomorrow, due to staff training in the morning.

"In the living room the voice-clock sang, tick-tock, seven o'clock, time to get up, time to get up, seven o'clock! as if it were afraid that nobody would. The morning house lay empty. The clock ticked on, repeating and repeating its sounds into the emptiness. Seven-nine, breakfast time, seven-nine!

"In the kitchen the breakfast stove gave a hissing sigh and ejected from its warm interior eight pieces of perfectly browned toast, eight eggs sunnyside up, sixteen slices of bacon, two coffees, and two cool glasses of milk.

"'Today is August 4, 2026,' said a second voice...."
..and so begins the 1950 science-fiction short story, "There Will Come Soft Rains" by Ray Bradbury. It just so happens that today is that day: August 4, 2026.

This Thursday, August 6, at 6:30 p.m., we will be discussing this short story and how Bradbury imagined the future...which is now our reality.

Busy Person’s Book Club meets on the first Thursday of each month. It's a book club designed for people who don't have a lot of time to read, with a focus on shorter works!

Thanks for everyone who helped us celebrate a fantastic Summer Library Program, with nearly 1,300 readers registered. We can't believe summer is almost over...but we're looking forward to doing it all over again next year.
