Today, we were honored to welcome Judy Short, President of the Women’s Club of Huntington, as she stopped by the Mission with a generous donation for our Food Pantry. ❤️
The Women’s Club of Huntington has been a faithful and continuous supporter of our ministry, and we are so grateful for the compassion and commitment they show to our community time and time again. Their kindness helps ensure that families, individuals, and children facing difficult seasons continue to have access to meals, support, and hope. Thank you for standing beside the Mission and helping us continue this important work!

There is something truly special about a church family that sees a need and simply gets to work. ❤️
Last weekend, members of Christ Presbyterian Church on East Pea Ridge Road in Huntington came together to help create a brand new, warm, inviting, and welcoming space for the children in our shelter. What was once just a playroom is now becoming a place where children can laugh, learn, play, and simply feel like kids again during difficult seasons of life.
We are incredibly grateful to the congregation of Christ Presbyterian Church for giving their time, energy, talents, and hearts to this project. Their kindness reminds us that ministry is not just something spoken about on Sundays — it is LIVED OUT through acts of compassion and service to others.
We would also like to recognize Huntington City Mission Board Members Dr. Barbara Tarter and Monty Fulton, who were instrumental in coordinating and preparing for this wonderful upgrade. Your leadership and love for this ministry continue to make a lasting impact.
At the Mission, we often say that we could never do this work alone. It takes churches, community partners, volunteers, donors, and people willing to serve behind the scenes to help us continue caring for families experiencing homelessness.
To everyone involved — thank you for helping us create not just a room, but a place of comfort, joy, and healing for the children we serve.

Tonight, two individuals will sleep in a places of their own. 🏡
That may sound simple to some, but for those who have experienced homelessness, it represents stability, hope, and a brand new beginning.

Housing someone is never as easy as handing over keys. It takes hard work, persistence, and a team committed to walking beside people every step of the way. Income must be secured. Identification documents have to be gathered and organized. Relationships with landlords must be built. Transportation, applications, inspections, and countless details all have to come together at just the right time.

And even after housing is secured, the work continues — because we want every person to walk into not just a house, but a home.

Today, we celebrate two individuals who took huge steps forward in their journey, and we are incredibly proud of them. We also want to recognize our Rapid Rehousing all-star team, Crystal and Justin, who work tirelessly behind the scenes to make moments like this possible every single day. Their compassion, advocacy, and determination change lives.

If you would like to help support individuals and families as they transition into housing, donations of household essentials are always appreciated. Bedding, towels, kitchen items, small furniture, cleaning supplies, and other basic home necessities can make all the difference during this fresh start.

To donate, please call the Mission @ 304-523-0293 and ask for Crystal or Justin on our Rapid Rehousing Team. ❤️

Because everyone deserves a place to call home.

Every day at the Mission, we help families who are doing the hard work to rebuild their lives — working, saving, showing up, and taking meaningful steps toward a better future for themselves. ❤️
Right now, we are walking alongside one hardworking family as they transition into a more stable housing situation, and we are hoping our incredible community might be able to help fill two important needs:
🧺 A washer
❄️ A refrigerator
If you have a gently used appliance you are willing to donate, we would be deeply grateful. For a family starting over, they can make all the difference in creating a safe, comfortable, and sustainable home.
📩 Please send us a private message if you may be able to help.
🚚 We can arrange local pickup.
Time and time again, this community reminds us that no one has to rebuild alone. Thank you for always showing up with compassion, generosity, and hope for our neighbors in need. 💚

Today, on the National Day of Prayer, we pause to reflect on something that has always been at the heart of the Huntington City Mission: faith in action.
For decades, prayer has been woven into the foundation of this ministry. It is present in the prayers spoken over families searching for hope, and in the belief that every single person who walks through our doors has value, purpose, and worth.
At the Mission, we are called to meet the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of individuals experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness in our community. Every day, that mission comes to life through shelter, meals, recovery support, housing assistance, behavioral health services, prayer, compassion, and simple acts of kindness that remind people they are not forgotten.
We minister to mothers and fathers trying to rebuild.
To children who deserve safety and stability.
To individuals battling addiction and mental health challenges.
To neighbors who never imagined they would need help.
To anyone who comes seeking hope.
And while food, shelter, and services are essential, we believe one of the most powerful things we can offer is to walk alongside someone and remind them they are loved by God and valued by their community.
Today, we ask you to join us in prayer:
Pray for those experiencing homelessness.
Pray for families struggling silently.
Pray for those in recovery.
Pray for our staff, volunteers, donors, and community partners who faithfully serve others every day.
And pray that we continue to be a lighthouse of hope in Huntington.

“For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty, and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger, and you invited me in.” — Matthew 25:35

Happy National Day of Prayer from all of us at the Huntington City Mission. 💚

Sometimes, it’s the smallest things that tell the biggest story.
Last week, we shared a need for a father staying at the Mission who had just secured employment but desperately needed non-slip work shoes in his size, and they were not an average size. Within no time, two kind individuals stepped forward and mailed shoes to help him begin this new chapter, which is great. One pair for work and one pair for everything else.
When we handed him those shoes, he said:
“This is the first pair of shoes I’ve had that actually fit me in at least three years.”
Honestly, that says everything.
For many of us, a pair of shoes is something we hardly think twice about. But for someone trying to rebuild their life, provide for their children, and take the next step forward, dignity matters. Comfort matters. Feeling seen matters.
To the individuals who answered this need so quickly: THANK YOU. Your kindness was felt far deeper than you may ever realize. 💚❤️

Tomorrow is an opportunity to step into something bigger.
At the Huntington City Mission, this isn’t just a job—it’s a calling to serve, to love, and to make a real difference in the lives of women and families in our community.
If that speaks to you, we invite you to come meet our team. We’d be honored to talk with you!

Today, our Kitchen Coordinator, Chef Kyle Newman, is sharing a quick update from inside our pantry—and right now, our shelves are running low.
This pantry is more than just food on a shelf.
It’s the box of groceries that helps a family settle into a new home after leaving us.
It’s the support for someone trying to get back on their feet.
It’s the “no questions asked” help for anyone in our community who walks through our doors needing a meal.
And every time we’ve shared a need like this… You have responded in a mighty way.
We’re asking again, if you’re able, to help us restock the pantry so we can continue serving our neighbors with dignity and care.
Whether it’s a single item, a full box, or sharing this post… it all matters.
📦 Most-needed items:
• Canned meats
• Peanut butter & jelly
• Pasta & sauce, Macaroni and Cheese
• Canned vegetables & fruit
• Boxed meals (Hamburger Helper, etc.)
• Breakfast items (cereal, oatmeal, breakfast bars)
Donations can be dropped off at the Mission or ordered through our Amazon wish list. https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/3VABO6OBLTJ5Q...
Thank you for always standing with us—and for standing with those we serve. We couldn’t do this without you.

Update: It didn’t take long at all for our followers to make it happen! Both these needs are being fulfilled by gracious givers! Thank you all ❤️

Every day, Thanks to this community, needs are met and lives are changed—and we are so grateful. ❤️

Today, we have two simple but meaningful needs:
• A microwave for an individual who has just moved into housing and is starting fresh
• A shower chair for a guest currently staying at the Mission
These may seem like small items, but they make a big difference in comfort, dignity, and daily life.
Time and time again, we’ve seen our supporters step in and “make it happen”—and we are so thankful. Whether it’s through donations, prayers, or simply sharing our posts, you are part of every story of hope that unfolds here.

If you feel led to help meet one of these needs, please reach out to us directly. Call us at 304-523-0293 with questions, let us know you will take care of this need, or send us a message here. Together, we can continue to care for our neighbors in practical, meaningful ways.
Thank you for being the hands and feet that make this ministry possible. 💚
