An Evening Under the Stars, presented by the Huntington Historical Society and hosted at the Kissam House, supports the Society's work to share Huntington's history for future generations. This year's event honored Town Historian Robert Hughes and Town Archivist Antonia Mattheou, whose incredibly important work has helped to preserve Huntington's rich heritage and history through maintenance of Town records, the management of historic properties, and work with local cultural and historical organizations.

The Town of Huntington extends our gratitude to the Huntington Historical Society for their efforts to preserve Huntington's history. Please visit https://huntingtonhistoricalsociety.org/ to learn more.

Today, on the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks, we pause to remember the thousands of lives lost and to honor the extraordinary heroism of the first responders and volunteers who acted with courage and resolve to rescue others and provide aid in the aftermath. We also keep in our thoughts those who are fighting or have died from 9/11-related injuries and illnesses. We vow to continue to educate future generations, ensure that the memory of those we lost that day endures, and to never forget.

On the eve of the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, the Town of Huntington recognized those lost on and as a result of that day at the 9/11 Memorial Service at Heckscher Park. For the first time, the service mirrored the National September 11th Memorial and Museum's additional moment of silence to formally honor the rescue, recovery, and relief workers and civilians who have died from 9/11-related illnesses and injuries caused by the attacks' aftermath, before honoring the Huntington residents who died on September 11, 2001.

The Town of Huntington would like to thank the elected officials who attended the service; the servicemembers who presented the colors and brought music to Heckscher Park; Brueggemann's Funeral Home in East Northport for their generous donation of presentation roses; each of the Town employees responsible for putting this important event together; the Huntington Veterans Advisory Board; and Carol Rocco, Director of Veterans Affairs.

Each year, we hope to ensure that a new generation understands the tragedy of that day, honors the victims, and remembers the profound bravery, compassion, and community service demonstrated by first responders, volunteers, and everyday citizens. We memorialize those who were lost and honor those who remain, and we vow to never forget.

The fair supports the Huntington Human Services Institute, which partners with local social service agencies to meet the needs of Huntington's residents, and was hosted in collaboration with local healthcare offices and agencies.

The Town of Huntington would like to express our gratitude to all those who came to and participated in today's community health fair, especially those who generously sponsored the event and those who provided complimentary specialized services, and we look forward to welcoming you to the next one.
