Clio Foundation

Clio Foundation Non-profit (501c3) offering a free mobile app that connects the public to local history.

Named after the ancient Greek muse of history, Clio puts history at your fingertips. Similar to locator ‘apps’ that help you find a nearby restaurant or repair shop, Clio picks up your present location and guides you to landmarks, museums, and historic sites. It also acts as a virtual time machine, allowing a user to see images and videos and hear and read about historic events that happened aroun

d them. Clio is not only a website and smartphone application, but also a collaborative research, interpretation, curation, and map-building project. Museum professionals, scholars, and their students contribute most of Clio’s content. We also depend upon local history experts and museum volunteers who often know more about local history than anyone else. Each day, this partnership of local history experts and professional historians is building a comprehensive, dynamic, and interactive map of American history.

Dr Taylor was one of our best, and it shows in his legacy.

It is with a heavy heart that BlackPast.org shares the passing of our founder, Dr. Quintard Taylor. An exceptional historian, educator, author, and scholar, Dr. Taylor founded BlackPast.org, which grew into the world’s largest online encyclopedia devoted to African American and global African history. Through his life’s work and BlackPast.org, Dr. Taylor made a promise that Black history will never be erased. Let us all carry forth his promise and legacy.
