Place of Grace

Place of Grace real · lasting · life transformation What is Place of Grace? Place of Grace began serving women in the Huntington community at the beginning of 2017.

Place of Grace is a Christian-based transition home for women transitioning from incarceration back into the Huntington Community. Place of Grace had its beginnings in the fall of 2009 when a group of concerned community members began volunteering their time at the Huntington jail. These volunteers quickly saw a recurring pattern among the incarcerated women: many of these women did not belong in

jail but instead needed a support system to help them break free from addictive patterns that perpetuate an unhealthy and destructive cycle that is void of hope for a better future.

Our final Women's Program Team updates is: Faith Ferguson, our House Manager!

While Faith is new to the team, she is not new to Place of Grace family! Faith is a Place of Grace graduate and has continued to mentor our residents since her graduation.

Faith brings warmth, peace, and JOY to our home! She lives out her faith and recovery every day and is an incredible support to the women in the program.

Join us in welcoming Faith to the Place of Grace team!

Next up for our re-introductions of our Women’s Program Team: Shauna Dotson, Case Manager!

Shauna started with Place of Grace as our Ministry Assistant and then transitioned to the Recovery Coach role, where she’s served for the last year. She just graduated from Indiana Wesleyan University with a Bachelor’s in Social work so was promoted to Case Manager.

In this new role, she will continue to provide peer support to our residents as she helps them navigate and accomplish their personal and program goals. Shauna uses her lived experience to bring hope and empowerment to the women we serve. She is passionate about recovery and makes everyone who walks through our doors feel at home!

We are so thankful for Shauna and can’t wait to see how the Lord will use her in this new season.

Please join us in congratulating Shauna! 🫶🏻

This week, we're reintroducing some familiar faces as we've made a few staffing changes at Place of Grace. First up: Joy Bir, our new Women's Program Director!

Many of you already know (and love!) Joy. She faithfully served as our Peer Recovery Coach for more than three years before transitioning to community peer support work for the last year. Joy brings her lived experience, a passion for recovery, a heart for our community, and a dedication to sharing the hope and healing found in Christ. We're thankful to have Joy back on the Place of Grace team and look forward to all that God has in store for this next chapter.

Please join us in welcoming Joy back to the Place of Grace family! 🫶

So much more than a bakery…

If you've been around here for a while, you've probably heard us say that Gracefully Gourmet is more than just a bakery—it's where life-changing treats are created.

But what does that actually mean?

It means that every Monday, the residents of Place of Grace come to Gracefully Gourmet to pop, bag, label, and stock our Popcorn with Purpose wall, along with preparing any popcorn orders we have for the week.

But it also means so much more.

It means learning to work as a team, sometimes alongside personalities they wouldn't naturally choose. It means practicing patience when popcorn spills across the table and the process doesn't go quite as planned. It means building confidence, developing a work ethic, and adding valuable skills to a résumé that may not have been updated in years.

We always miss our residents when they secure employment beyond Gracefully Gourmet. At the same time, those goodbyes are exactly what we're working toward. And they know our doors are always open—whether they need a few extra hours as they prepare to move into a place of their own or simply a safe place to land when life becomes difficult again.

More than anything, Gracefully Gourmet is a place where our residents experience something many haven't felt in a long time: a community that knows them, believes in them, and is cheering them on. Through every conversation at the register, every encouraging smile, and every purchase made, they're reminded that Huntington is a community willing to invest in their future.

So yes, we make cookies, bread, popcorn, and other homemade treats.

But the sweetest thing we create is hope.

📅 Save the Date 📅

We hope you'll join us on August 27, 2026 for the Place of Grace Celebration Dinner, Stories of Grace.

At Place of Grace, we get to witness something remarkable every single day: God rewriting stories.

Stories of addiction become stories of recovery. Stories of incarceration become stories of purpose. Stories marked by trauma, poverty, and brokenness become stories of healing, stability, and hope.

This evening is an opportunity to celebrate those stories, share what God is doing through Place of Grace, and look ahead to the lives that will be impacted for generations to come.

Sponsorship opportunities are now available for businesses, churches, organizations, and individuals who want to invest in the life-changing work of Place of Grace.
