Huntingtown Volunteer Fire Department

Huntingtown Volunteer Fire Department To protect the lives, property, and environment of the people who live, work & play in Huntingtown MD The Huntingtown Volunteer Fire Dept. was chartered.

and Rescue Squad Inc., Co. 6, is located in Calvert County, Maryland approximately 5 miles north of Prince Frederick. As is the case with many communities, Huntingtown residents felt a need for their own fire and rescue service. Citizens got together and on February 24, 1972 the Huntingtown Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad Inc. Local firefighters and citizens worked weekends and holidays

to construct the firehouse. It is located on MD Route 524 in the heart of Huntingtown's business district. Most of the labor was free and many of the building supplies were also donated. The entire building was built for under $70,000. The first piece of fire apparatus was a 1961 Ford/American La France purchased from the Forestville Volunteer Fire Department. The 750 gpm pumper with a 500 gallon booster tank cost $12,000. The money was raised through donations. The first ambulance was a 1968 Oldsmobile that formerly served the Waldorf Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad. The departments auxiliary paid for the ambulance. The first call for help came on October 15, 1974, an emergency transport to University of Maryland Hospital in Baltimore. The first fire call came on October 23 for a brush fire on Route 4 north of Huntingtown. During the first three months of operation, 23 fire and 76 EMS calls were answered. Today Huntingtown has 2 class A engines, a tanker, 2 brush units, 2 ambulances (1 ALS), a heavy duty squad and 2 Suburbans. The department responded to 2611 calls in 2011. Huntingtown protects 45 square miles between the river and bay, and sits between Prince Frederick, North Beach and Dunkirk. Funding for day to day operations is provided by Calvert County but apparatus is funded by both the County and department. This is accomplished mainly through the Corvette Contest. To date the Huntingtown Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad Inc. has contributed well over $500,000 to the purchase of new apparatus. Today the Huntingtown Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad Inc. provides the following services:

Fire Suppression
Heavy Duty Rescue
Confined Space Rescue
Emergency Medical Services

🚒 Community Advisory – Live Fire Training Exercise 🚒

The members of the Huntingtown Volunteer Fire Department, along with neighboring departments, will be conducting a live fire training exercise at 4010 Hunting Creek Road on Saturday, May 31, 2026, beginning at 8:00 a.m.

Training will be conducted with personnel from North Beach Volunteer Fire Department and Dunkirk Volunteer Fire Department and is expected to conclude by approximately 4:00 p.m.

No road closures are planned, however, motorists should use caution as tanker trucks and other emergency vehicles will be traveling along Hunting Creek Road throughout the day.

This training provides valuable hands-on experience for firefighters and helps ensure our crews remain prepared to serve the community when real emergencies occur.

We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to Huntingtown United Methodist Church for allowing us to utilize this property for training. Community partnerships like these are invaluable in helping us provide realistic training opportunities for our members.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we conduct this important training.

Yesterday at 1622, your Huntingtown Volunteers were alerted to the 6000 block of Federal Oak Drive for a residential fire alarm. Chief 6 (T. Clark) and Engine 62 (J. Threlfall) responded on the initial assignment.

Engine 62 arrived on scene and discovered a kitchen fire inside the residence, prompting the incident to be upgraded to an area box assignment. Additional Huntingtown units including Chief 6B (M. Montgomery), Squad 6 (Lt. Whittington), and Tanker 6 (P. Robison) responded along with mutual aid companies.
