Huntley firefighters responded to a house fire Thursday afternoon in the 2600 block of Waterford Lane in Lake in the Hills.

Firefighters arrived to find heavy fire conditions at the rear of the home extending into the attic. Due to the volume of fire, the incident was upgraded to a Working Fire response. Crews quickly deployed hose lines and worked from both the interior and exterior of the home while also protecting a neighboring residence from the intense heat generated by the fire.

Two occupants and their dog safely escaped prior to firefighters’ arrival. One homeowner was evaluated by paramedics at the scene for a minor injury. The fire was brought under control in approximately 60 minutes, however the home sustained heavy fire and water damage and has been deemed uninhabitable.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Huntley Fire Protection District.

We would like to thank the numerous agencies that assisted at the scene and provided station coverage, as well as the Lake in the Hills Police Department and SEECOM 9-1-1 Telecommunicators for their support throughout the incident.

Across our communities, families gather this Memorial Day weekend to spend time together and enjoy the unofficial start of summer.

Amid those gatherings, we pause to remember the brave military members who never returned home from service to our country. Their sacrifice and commitment to protecting others will always be remembered. 🇺🇸

The Huntley Fire Protection District is more than just a department. We are a family, and families stand beside each other through every challenge life brings.

Our brother, former Huntley Lieutenant Bryan Szymczak, continues his courageous fight against ALS. Throughout this month, our crews are wearing special ALS awareness shirts every Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday as a visible reminder that Bryan is not facing this battle alone.

These shirts represent more than awareness. They represent brotherhood, support, and the lasting bond shared within the fire service.

We continue to keep Bryan and his family in our thoughts.

Huntley firefighters responded to a large barn fire late Friday morning in the 14800 block of Church Road in unincorporated Huntley. Crews arrived to find the approximately 90-foot by 40-foot barn fully engulfed in fire with nearby buildings threatened and multiple field fires spreading due to strong winds.

Firefighters immediately deployed hose lines to protect nearby structures, including one adjacent barn that had already caught fire. Due to the rural location and lack of hydrants, water tenders were used to shuttle water to the scene while additional resources were requested through the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (M.A.B.A.S.) for manpower and water supply operations.

Grass and brush fire apparatus were also deployed into surrounding fields where firefighters quickly stopped the spread of the fires, limiting the damage to less than one acre. The bulk of the fire was extinguished within approximately 90 minutes, however crews remained on scene for several additional hours while firefighters worked to dismantle and extinguish a large stockpile of burning hay using heavy machinery.

No injuries to civilians, firefighters, or animals were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Huntley Fire Protection District.

We would like to thank the numerous assisting agencies, departments providing station coverage, and the SEECOM 9-1-1 Public Safety Telecommunicators for their assistance during the incident.
