And finally, meet our moderator for the Oh Freedom! event this Friday!

Dr. Karockas ‘Doc Rock” Watkins is the CEO & President of Vision Excellence Company, a leadership & professional/business development consulting company. He is also the CEO, President, and Executive Director of Ability Plus Inc. in Huntsville, AL which employs over 400 people region wide. He serves as the General Overseer & Lead Pastor of Emmanuel The Connection Church in Huntsville, AL. He has held seminars, conferences, and corporate trainings both domestically & internationally in over 30 countries.

Dr. Watkins is the solo author of three published books—God-A-Tude, No Bad Days, and Attitude Determines Altitude—and the co-author of two additional published books, The ABC’s of INFLUENCE and The Power & Purpose of Mentorship.

Introducing our next panelist for our Oh Freedom! event this Friday!

Dr. Sherice Janaye Nelson is a speaker, author, and scholar-administrator with more than a decade of experience in higher education, specializing in Black political institutions, leadership, and public policy. She is only HBCU educated: attending Stillman College, the University of DC and Howard University for her PhD in Political Science. Dr. Nelson previously served as the Inaugural Director of the Jewel Limar Prestage Public Policy, Polling, and Research Center at Southern University where she developed the Center’s research infrastructure and policy initiatives. Her scholarship examines the political, social, and economic dimensions of racism in American democracy and across the Black diaspora. She is the author of two books: The Congressional Black Caucus: Fifty Years of Fighting for Equality and Visibility Invisible: The Women of the Congressional Black Caucus.

Introducing our next panelist for our Oh Freedom! event this Friday!

Mrs. Kayla Jefferson is a servant leader who currently serves as an Assistant Principal and Athletic Director in the Madison County School System. She is a graduate of THE GREAT Alabama A&M University and completed her M.Ed in Instructional Leadership at the University of West Alabama. Mrs. Jefferson is a life-long learner and former Teacher of the Year with fourteen years of teaching and coaching experience. In addition to educating students, she also facilitates mentorship, effective classroom management, and expectations communication professional development for fellow educators. Kayla is blessed to be called to pour into the lives of our future leaders.

This event will feature a dynamic panel of educators, authors, strategists, and community leaders as millennials take the floor to discuss equality, justice, and progress in our communities.

One of our panelists, Dr. Randy Barbour, Jr. is the Director of the Office of Multicultural Affairs for the City of Huntsville, where he leads efforts to advance civic engagement, equity, and inclusive community development. A Huntsville native and graduate of Cornell University, the University of Alabama in Huntsville, and Wichita State University, where he earned his Ph.D. in Community Psychology, he is a passionate advocate for strengthening communities and expanding opportunities for all. Through his work and service, Dr. Barbour is committed to building a more connected, empowered, and inclusive Huntsville.

On Saturday, June 6th, the Bob Harrison Center was filled with energy, unity, and purpose as the North Alabama Sickle Cell Foundation hosted its Annual Sickle Cell Walk-a-thon. Madison County District 6 and the Bob Harrison Center proudly served as sponsors in support of this vital cause.

Participants showed up to walk, support, and raise awareness, making the event a tremendous success. We are proud to be part of efforts that bring our community together for education, advocacy, and hope in the fight against sickle cell disease.

Thank you to everyone who walked, volunteered, and supported this impactful day!

Join us on Friday, June 19, 2026, from 10:00 A.M. to Noon at the Robert “Bob” Harrison Wellness and Advocacy Center for this year's Oh Freedom!, a powerful Juneteenth community conversation. This year's topic is focused on what the 15th Amendment looks like in today’s world.

This event will feature a dynamic panel of educators, authors, strategists, and community leaders as millennials take the floor to discuss equality, justice, and progress in our communities.

One of our panelists, Quinton Young, is an Oakland, California native with that has developed deep roots in the State of Alabama. He holds a Bachelor’s degree from Stillman College and a Master’s in Urban and Regional Planning from Alabama A&M University, along with Executive Certificates in Nonprofit Management and Real Estate Development.

Quinton has dedicated his career to anti-poverty, community, and economic development initiatives, with experience spanning workforce development, entrepreneurship expansion at HBCUs, affordable housing growth, and broadband access in public housing communities.

Known for turning ideas into actionable programs, he focuses on building initiatives that dismantle barriers to opportunity and create pathways to economic mobility. He has been recognized as a Huntsville 40 Under 40 honoree and Young Professional of the Year for his leadership in economic and community development.
