As we celebrate 250 years of freedom, we’re also counting down to a new era of Bearkat Football inside the brand-new Elliott T. Bowers Stadium.

Please join us in welcoming Officer D. Lopez to the Sam Houston State University Police Department!

Officer Lopez started her law enforcement career with the SHSU Police Department as a SHSU College of Criminal Justice Intern and just recently graduated from the Conroe Police Department, Texas Academy. She is now beginning the next phase of her law enforcement career as she enters our Field Training Program. Throughout field training, she will work alongside our experienced Field Training Officers to further develop the knowledge, skills, and confidence necessary to serve the community.

We would also like to extend our sincere appreciation to the Conroe Police Academy for its continued partnership and commitment to training the next generation of law enforcement professionals. We value the strong relationship between our agencies and appreciate the academy’s dedication to preparing recruits for successful careers in policing.

Congratulations, Officer Lopez, on this important milestone! We look forward to watching you grow as you begin serving the Bearkat community.

The SHSU Police Department was proud to welcome participants from the SHSU Criminal Justice Camp for an engaging and educational day of law enforcement and public safety learning.

Students had the opportunity to hear presentations from members of our Patrol Division, Criminal Investigative Division (CID), Telecommunications Division, and Emergency Management Office, gaining valuable insight into the many roles and responsibilities within modern policing and emergency preparedness.

Camp participants also experienced firsthand the effects of impairment by wearing drunk goggles, an interactive activity designed to demonstrate the dangers associated with driving while intoxicated. Students then spent time with patrol officers learning about the importance of DWI enforcement and the role officers play in keeping our roads and community safe.

We appreciate the students' enthusiasm and interest in criminal justice careers and are honored to help educate the next generation of public safety professionals.
