Deputies are actively monitoring roadways throughout the county for rising floodwaters and hazardous driving conditions. Several roads have already been impacted, and conditions can change rapidly as rainfall continues.

We urge motorists to use extreme caution and never attempt to drive through flooded roadways. It only takes a small amount of moving water to sweep a vehicle off the roadway, and floodwaters often conceal damaged pavement, debris, washouts, and other hidden hazards.

If you encounter a flooded roadway, turn around and find an alternate route. No destination is worth risking your life or the lives of your passengers. We will continue monitoring conditions and responding to affected areas. Please slow down, stay alert, and help us keep our roads safe.

⚠️ ROAD CONDITION UPDATE ⚠️

Deputies continue to respond to areas of flooding across the county. Barricades are currently being placed at Bell Factory Road and Steakley Road, near 400 block of Bell Factory Road, due to high water on the roadway. Motorists are urged to avoid flooded areas, use caution while traveling, and never attempt to drive through standing water. We ask that you continue to monitor local conditions and allow extra time for travel during periods of heavy rainfall.

This morning, the Madison County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit partnered with the Huntsville Police Department Traffic Unit for a joint traffic enforcement detail along Research Park Boulevard. During the operation, deputies and officers conducted 38 traffic stops, resulting in 2 arrests and 1 vehicle impoundment.

These proactive enforcement efforts are aimed at improving roadway safety, reducing dangerous driving behaviors, and keeping our community safe. Partnerships like these allow us to combine resources and focus on areas where traffic concerns have been identified.

We appreciate the continued cooperation between our agencies as we work together to make Madison County and Huntsville safer for everyone who travels our roadways.

Tonight marked another informative session of the Madison County Sheriff’s Citizens’ Academy as members spent the evening learning about several of the specialized units that serve Madison County every day.
Lieutenant Cody Davis, Sergeant Josh Moseley, Sergeant Steven Hopkins, and other deputies provided an in-depth look at the work performed by our Narcotics Division, Drone Unit, and K-9 Unit.

Sergeant Moseley gave our members a crash course into the world of narcotics, providing a realistic look at the types of illegal drugs deputies encounter on the streets of Madison County. He discussed current drug trends, the dangers associated with narcotics trafficking and abuse, and the ongoing efforts being made to combat these issues within our community.

Sergeant Hopkins provided an overview of the Sheriff’s Office Drone Unit and shared several real-world examples of how this technology is used to support public safety. Through videos and actual case scenarios, members were able to see firsthand how drones assist deputies during search operations, critical incidents, criminal investigations, and other missions throughout Madison County.

Members also had the opportunity to experience live K-9 demonstrations and observe building search techniques, providing a firsthand look at the training, teamwork, and specialized skills required of our deputies.

The Citizens’ Academy is just one of the many ways we keep our community informed about the Madison County Sheriff’s Office. Providing citizens with a behind-the-scenes look at our operations helps build understanding and strengthen relationships while maintaining the trust and transparency that are essential to effective law enforcement.

We appreciate the continued interest and support from our Citizens’ Academy members and look forward to concluding another successful academy next week. 🇺🇸

This week, members of the Madison County Sheriff’s Office School Resource Officer Unit are attending the TAASRO Conference in Orange Beach. The conference provides valuable training and networking opportunities with SROs from across Alabama, all with the shared goal of keeping our schools safe and building strong relationships with students, teachers, and staff.

We appreciate our SROs for their commitment to learning, growing, and bringing that knowledge back to the schools and communities they serve every day.

Our SWAT Team stayed busy this past week, splitting into two groups and tackling two completely different missions. One group spent the day on the range with a local company that won a “Range Day with SWAT” raffle. Everyone had a great time, learned a lot, and most importantly, enjoyed a safe day alongside some of our tactical operators.

The rest of the team spent a day at Monrovia Middle School training with the Monrovia Volunteer Fire Department’s Rescue Task Force. This training focused on getting medical personnel into a mass casualty scene as quickly and safely as possible, working closely behind law enforcement officers as they clear and secure the area. The members of Monrovia VFD demonstrated a tremendous amount of courage and commitment during this training. These are the types of partnerships and training opportunities that help ensure we’re prepared when our community needs us most.

Whether it’s training on the range, working with our public safety partners, or preparing for situations we hope never happen, our SWAT Team remains committed to being ready when called upon.
