Precipitation from Tropical Storm Nicole will spread across east Tennessee, southwest North Carolina and southwest Virginia tonight into Friday before tapering off late Friday night. This rainfall will help to alleviate persistent drought conditions across the area, and benefit those who are affected by, or battling wildfires. Strong and gusty winds will accompany this system, but should be contained to the higher terrain areas of east Tennessee, southwest VA, and southwest NC.

Wind Advisory: Tonight through Friday afternoon for the east Tennessee and southwest North Carolina mountains

What has changed: Issued Wind Advisory. Storm total rainfall amounts have been lowered across the foothills of the east TN mountains.

What: Moderate rainfall.
Where: East Tennessee, southwest North Carolina, and southwest Virginia.
When: Tonight through late Friday night.
Hazard:
What: Strong and gusty winds. Gusts up to 40 mph above 2500 feet. Gusts up to 50 mph above 4000 feet. Locally higher gusts up to 60 mph possible across the highest peaks, such as Cove Mountain.
Where: Higher terrain of the east Tennessee, southwest VA, and southwest North Carolina mountains.
When: Tonight through Friday morning/afternoon.

Precipitation from Tropical Storm Nicole will spread across east Tennessee, southwest North Carolina and southwest Virginia Thursday night and Friday before tapering off early Saturday morning. Warm and dry today but starting late Saturday night, most of us will see rainfall! While the amounts aren't "great" - at this point, any moisture is good! These rainfall totals are for Saturday night through early Monday evening.

We continue to monitor a system that will track to our northwest today and tonight, bringing gusty winds to the region and possibly a few strong to severe storms as well. Expect some 40-50mph winds in the mountains. Severe chances remain low overall, but the slight risk area to our southwest was expanded and now is adjacent to Marion county in the southern plateau. Best chances for any severe storms would be in the far south.

What has changed: Slight risk area for severe thunderstorms now adjacent to Marion county

A storm system will track to our northwest, bringing gusty winds to the region, especially in and near the Tennessee mountains and adjacent foothills. This could lead to downed trees and powerlines. Also, scattered showers and possibly a few thunderstorms are expected, some of which could be strong to severe with damaging winds as the main concern. Overall, rainfall totals will be light, especially east of Interstate 75.
