Huntsville School District Families,
You may have seen recent posts on TikTok featuring digitally created or altered images and videos of the โCat in the Hat.โ This trend has been circulating widely and has prompted questions and concerns among schools and families.
Some of the content includes frightening images or messages that reference schools, communities, or students. Because of the nature of some of these posts, DESE has encouraged schools to be aware of the trend and to monitor any content that may create concern.
We want to reassure our families that ๐ญ๐ก๐๐ซ๐ ๐ข๐ฌ ๐๐ฎ๐ซ๐ซ๐๐ง๐ญ๐ฅ๐ฒ ๐ง๐จ ๐ค๐ง๐จ๐ฐ๐ง ๐๐ซ๐๐๐ข๐๐ฅ๐ ๐จ๐ซ ๐ข๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ข๐ง๐๐ง๐ญ ๐ญ๐ก๐ซ๐๐๐ญ ๐ญ๐จ ๐๐ฎ๐ง๐ญ๐ฌ๐ฏ๐ข๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ ๐๐๐ก๐จ๐จ๐ฅ ๐๐ข๐ฌ๐ญ๐ซ๐ข๐๐ญ related to this trend.
As always, we encourage families to talk with students about being thoughtful and responsible when using social media. If your child comes across something that appears threatening or concerning, please encourage them to:
+ Tell a parent, teacher, or another trusted adult.
+ Avoid commenting on, sharing, or reposting the content.
+ Report inappropriate or concerning posts through the social media platform.
+ Save a screenshot if the content specifically references Huntsville School District, one of our schools, or a student.
Our district and school safety personnel are aware of the trend and will continue to monitor information that could potentially impact our students or staff. We will work with appropriate officials if any legitimate concerns arise.
Thank you for talking with your children about safe and responsible social media use and for partnering with us to keep the Huntsville School District community safe.
