Tuesday and Wednesday we had one of our dispatchers participate in Huntsville ISD’s Safety Town. Safety town is a great experience for the up and coming generations to learn about essential safety skills. Some stations simulate real-life scenarios, teach the importance of saying “No” to drugs, and even fire safety. This event has multiple First Responder agencies present, this helps build a positive relationship with the community we serve and protect. We enjoy being apart of this event and helping children learn the importance of 911 and everything that we do..
We look forward to the next event 💛

Several Controlled/Prescribed Burns in Walker County today. Please only call 9-1-1 for true emergencies.

🔥 **Smoke West of Town – Prescribed Burn in Progress** 🔥

If you’re seeing smoke west of town today, there is no emergency in the City of Huntsville. The smoke is from a planned prescribed burn being conducted by forestry officials.

Agencies such as the U.S. Forest Service and the Texas A&M Forest Service use prescribed fire as a proactive tool to:

✅ Reduce excess brush and wildfire fuel
✅ Improve forest health
✅ Enhance wildlife habitat
✅ Decrease the risk of larger, more dangerous wildfires

These operations are carefully planned around weather conditions, wind direction, humidity, and fuel conditions. Firebreaks are established, and trained wildland crews remain on scene throughout the burn.

You may notice smoke depending on wind direction. That is expected during this type of operation.

As always, if you see something that appears uncontrolled or poses an immediate threat, call 9-1-1. Otherwise, this is planned work helping keep our community safer in the long run.
