Last night, the City Council approved a Fiscal Year 2027 operating budget of $360 million, along with two long range capital plan budgets. 💰🛣️🚓

Key highlights include:
• New road improvement projects
• Multimodal transportation investments, including new greenways and sidewalks
• Reinvestment corridors near Research Park, Mill Creek, and downtown
• Road resurfacing and maintenance
• Addition of 18 public safety personnel
• Multi year capital plan, including a police precinct, fire stations, and library facilities
• Improvements and expansions to parks
• Commercial redevelopment along Memorial Parkway
• Continued investment in the City’s greenway network
• 2% cost of living adjustment for City employees

The City’s fiscal year runs from Oct. 1 through Sept. 30.

During the session, the administration presented fiscal year 2027 budget related items that will come before the Council for future votes. The discussion included the FY2027 budget, a proposed amendment to the city’s organizational structure, a proposal to amend the city’s salary schedule, and proposed FY2027 updates to the 2014 and 1990 Capital Improvement Plans.

Residential garbage collection will be delayed one day. Residents should keep carts on the curb until collected.

Today, City Council certified the results of the Aug. 25 municipal election, officially declaring the winners of two City Council and Huntsville City Schools Board of Education races and setting one run-off for Council District 3.

Council Member Bill Kling was declared the winner of the Council District 4 race after receiving 66.43% of the vote.
