Hello FamiLEE,
At Lee High School, the safety and well-being of our students and staff remain our highest priority. We are committed to maintaining a safe, secure, and orderly learning environment while ensuring that students arrive to class on time and are prepared for a successful school day.
We are asking for your assistance and cooperation in following our morning arrival and weapons detection procedures. By working together, we can minimize delays, maintain an efficient screening process, and ensure that instruction begins promptly each morning.
Morning Arrival and Metal Detector Procedures
1. Arrive on Time - Students should be in line for security screening no later than 8:15 a.m. Please keep the following times in mind:
~7:45 a.m. – School doors open.
~8:15 a.m. – Students should be in line by this time for security screening.
~8:25 a.m. – Breakfast service ends, with exceptions for students arriving on late buses.
~8:30 a.m. – Instruction begins promptly.
We strongly encourage students to arrive early enough to complete the security screening process, eat breakfast if needed, and report to class before instruction begins. Every minute of instructional time matters, and arriving on time is essential to academic success.
2. Be Prepared Before Entering the Building - To help expedite the security screening process, students should have their HCS-issued laptops and all metal items, except keys, removed from their bags and in their hands before entering the building. Items include:
~Laptop chargers
~Headphones
~Metal water bottles and cups
~Canned beverages
~Other metal objects
Students should place these items in the designated baskets and proceed through the metal detectors as directed by school personnel. Students who wait until they enter the building to unpack their belongings create unnecessary delays for everyone.
3. Hold Laptops Above Your Head - When passing through the weapons detectors, students must hold their laptops above their heads with their arms extended as high as possible. Following this procedure helps ensure a smooth and efficient screening process.
To reduce delays during morning screening and support a focused learning environment, we students not to bring these items:
~Metal Water Bottles, Stanley Cups, and Canned Beverages - We encourage students to bring refillable plastic water bottles instead of metal containers and bottled beverages instead of canned drinks whenever possible. These alternatives help reduce the number of items that must be removed during security screening.
~Personal iPads, Tablets, and Laptops - Students are not permitted to bring personal electronic devices, including iPads, tablets, or laptops that have not been issued by Huntsville City Schools. These devices may bypass district internet security measures and provide access to websites or applications that are not appropriate for the instructional environment. Any unauthorized personal device brought to school will be confiscated and must be retrieved by a parent or guardian from the front office. If a student's HCS-issued laptop is not functioning properly, a loaner device is available through our IT office while the original device is being repaired.
We recognize that these procedures require additional preparation and cooperation from our students and families. However, student safety is non-negotiable, and protecting instructional time is equally important to our mission of academic excellence.
We ask all parents and guardians to take a few moments each evening to help their students prepare for the following school day. Ensuring that students arrive on time, bring only necessary items, and follow security procedures will make a significant difference in our morning operations.
Thank you for your continued partnership, understanding, and commitment to the success of our students. We will continue to maintain a safe, supportive, and academically focused environment where every student can thrive.
At Lee High School, we are committed to setting the standard for excellence as we continue our journey toward becoming an 'A' school!
Thank you for being an important part of our FamiLEE!
Blessings,
