BSA Troop 364 Huntsville

BSA Troop 364 Huntsville Boy Scout Troop 364 - Huntsville, AL
Wednesday Nights, 7:00-8:30 pm
Trinity Methodist Church

BSA Troop 364 is:

■ An active organization that builds on fifty years of local and national Scouting to guide our mission and the advancement of our scouts. We average two to three new Eagle Scouts per year and we are proud of the 150+ Eagle Scouts who joined the ranks of leaders, such as astronaut Neil Armstrong, the 38th U.S. President, Gerald Ford and movie director, Steven Spielberg.

■ A bo

y-lead troop that conducts a dynamic outdoor program. We camp and hike at least once a month throughout the year to help develop leadership, skills proficiency, and confidence in ability. Our scouts also do not shy away from high adventure challenges such as Philmont, Seabase, National Scout Jamboree, the Appalachian Trail and the Buffalo River.

■ A leadership and character developer through training and service oriented community involvement, such as paper collection drives, service projects, flag raising ceremonies and ushering on a regular basis. Past response to public need include food service for tornado victims and disaster food collection as examples of our participation. We continuously support the BSA Greater Alabama Council Scouting Program in our community.

■ A firm believer in building and promoting our scouts with the time honored tenets of:

- Be Prepared in Mind and Body

- Exercise Ethical Leadership

- Do a Good Turn Daily

- Develop Life Long Skills

Troop 364 embarked on one of our most exciting expeditions from 5-7 October 2023, whitewater kayaking on the Nantahala River in North Carolina! Scouts, parents and guests enjoyed miles of Class 1 and Class 2 rapids, culminating with the Class 3 Nantahala Falls, a rough and rocky whirlpool testing the skill and strength of even our most experienced kayakers. Although the weather was overcast and chilly and the water was cold, the Nantahala Outdoor Center was well-prepared with large, continuously-running fire pits and plenty of room to rest, giving the crew the chance to warm up and swap stories of their day on the river.

Amid storms and tornadoes and travel troubles, the Scouts of Troop 364 bravely faced a district-sponsored Zombie Apocalypse at Camp Westmoreland on 1-2 April 2023! Hosted by members of our local Order of the Arrow Lodge, scouts attended this spring Camporee, dodging zombie attacks and enjoying a snack of warm brains (actually…funnel cakes). After a morning spent scavenging sticks from the river for some epic sword fights and constructing a tarp-covered poker lounge like only scouts can, the boys spent the afternoon on a hike to a historic graveyard and learning local Indian lore. Adult leaders supervised the madness and courageously defended the troop from certain death at the hands of the OA Zombies!

Early on Saturday, 13 May 2023, the scouts of Troop 364, parents, and visitors participated in a community-wide cleanup day at Ditto Landing, our new Chartering Organization! As one of South Huntsville’s most attractive and commonly-visited features, Ditto Landing gives visitors the opportunity to fish, boat, bike, hike, camp, and picnic, open to all as a community service. Keeping the grounds safe, clean and well-maintained is important to the health and quality of life of our community, and Troop 364 is honored to demonstrate our values of citizenship and service in supporting these goals....
