So many possibilities, all in one place.

Every ASCTE junior and senior attended the Alabama Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers Huntsville/Madison County College Fair on Friday. With two-year and four-year colleges, public and private institutions, HBCUs, and military programs represented, students had plenty to explore.

They asked questions, compared programs, gathered information, and discovered options they may not have considered before. Some are just beginning their search, while others are getting closer to making a decision.

College fair day is always a favorite at ASCTE because it gives students a chance to picture where they might go next and what that future could look like.

Leidos has been part of the ASCTE story from the beginning, and this week we had another reason to celebrate that partnership.

Leidos presented the ASCTE Foundation with a new $10,000 investment, bringing the company's total giving to $1.025 million. That started with a $1 million commitment before our permanent campus was built.

Their support hasn't stopped with financial investments. Leidos has also welcomed ASCTE students as interns, giving them an opportunity to gain real-world experience and see where the skills they're building now can take them.

Members of the ASCTE team spent the day at the first meeting of the Consortium of Alabama Specialty Schools.

Our team joined colleagues from Alabama’s other specialty public high schools for department breakout sessions, conversations and a tour of Alabama School of Fine Arts. We shared some of what we’ve fine tuned at ASCTE and heard ideas from education colleagues doing similar work at the other schools.

That exchange is what makes this Consortium so valuable.

Each of our four schools has different expertise and a different mission. When we share what’s working, talk openly about what we’ve learned and bring those ideas back to our campuses, our students are the ones who benefit.

Most importantly, because our schools serve students from communities across Alabama, the impact of that collaboration reaches well beyond the walls of any one school.

Thank you to the Alabama School of Fine Arts for being incredible hosts. We’re looking forward to continuing the work!

What started as an ASCTE Amateur Radio Club project made its way to one of the largest amateur radio conventions in the country this past weekend.

Engineering instructor Dr. Chris Brown was invited to speak at Huntsville Hamfest about the club’s weather balloon launch last school year. He walked attendees through the steps involved in taking on a weather balloon project of their own and shared some of the lessons our team learned along the way.

Huntsville Hamfest has been around for more than 70 years and now draws 5,000–6,000 amateur radio enthusiasts from across the country.

And in a crowd that size, we still managed to find a Sentinel in the audience.

ASCTE is proud to welcome three new members to our Board of Trustees: Jennifer Jenkins, APR, Mel Koller, and former Alabama State Senator Del Marsh.

Jenkins, Founder and President of JJPR, has more than 30 years of experience in public relations, marketing, advertising, and communications strategy. An entrepreneur and longtime community leader, she has held leadership roles in professional and civic organizations across Alabama.

Koller, President and CEO of Alabama Farm Credit, brings extensive experience in executive leadership, agricultural finance, and strategic growth. His career has included a strong focus on supporting Alabama agriculture and strengthening rural communities.

Sen. Marsh brings more than two decades of public service to the Board. During his tenure in the Alabama Senate, where he served as President Pro Tempore, he championed efforts to advance education, economic growth, and opportunities for students and communities across the state.

The ASCTE Board of Trustees plays an important role in guiding our school, and the different experiences these three leaders bring to the table will add valuable perspective to that work.

We are grateful to Sen. Marsh, Koller, and Jenkins for their willingness to serve ASCTE and the students we serve from across Alabama. Please join us in welcoming our newest Trustees.

Join us at ASCTE for the first event of the 2026 school year in this professional learning series, featuring Youth Mental Health First Aid training and certification.

You'll gain practical tools to help recognize and respond when a young person may be experiencing a mental health or substance use challenge. You'll also have time to connect with other school professionals, tour ASCTE, hear from our student ambassadors, and learn more about opportunities available to students across Alabama.

🎉 We’re proud to celebrate seven ASCTE rising seniors who represented our school at Alabama Girls State and Boys State this summer!

Congratulations to Delilah, who attended Girls State, and to our Boys State delegates: James, Christopher, Anders, Advaith, Leo, and Jacob!

Being selected for these immersive programs is an honor and an opportunity to join other outstanding students from across Alabama for a week of hands-on learning. Delegates experience government firsthand while strengthening their leadership skills, learning more about civic engagement, and building connections with fellow student leaders from across the state.

We’re proud of the way these students represented the Sentinel community and took advantage of an incredible opportunity to learn, lead, and grow.

Today, the Alabama State Board of Education held its meeting and retreat at the Alabama Cyber Technology School in Huntsville—a fitting setting as we focus on preparing Alabama students for the opportunities and challenges of the future.

We also appreciate Minority Leader Anthony Daniels spending time with us today. It was great to share lunch with students in the cafeteria and hear more about the exciting programs and opportunities taking place at the school.

During today’s meeting, we also had the privilege of honoring Scottsboro High School Principal Zachary “Zac” Holt and School Resource Officer William “Travis” Stevens for their heroic response to a student experiencing a serious medical emergency.

Their quick thinking, calm leadership, and decisive action helped ensure the student received lifesaving medical care. Their response is a powerful reminder that the people who serve in our schools do far more than educate—they protect, lead, care for, and advocate for Alabama’s students when it matters most.

We are grateful for Officer Stevens and Principal Holt and the courage, compassion, and commitment they demonstrated. They represent the very best of Alabama’s educators and school safety professionals.

Thank you to Matt Massey, President of the Alabama School of Cyber Technology and Engineering, and his staff for their hospitality today and for hosting us so graciously on campus.
