Happy National Dog Day

We Love seeing our guests bring out their furry companions to explore the park.

We love it even more when they practice good outdoor ethics and Leave No Trace. We encourage pet owners to follow the BARK Ranger principles. Bag your waste, Always be on leash, Respect wildlife and Know where you can go.

We now have a board dedicated to talking about that and a place for Pet owners to show off their BARK Rangers. You can drop a photo off at the park or email [email protected]. Please makes sure your photo is from Huntsville SP, your pet is following the principles, and choose the best one to send.

Remember that we host a dog hike each month at the end of the month.

As of 10:00am August 24, a Burn Ban is in effect until further notice in Walker County due to extremely dry conditions.

Propane grills are allowed.
Fires are permitted ONLY in fully enclosed grills with lids.

At this time the use of park grills and fire rings is prohibited.

Please help reduce the risk of wildfires and keep the park safe. Thank YOU!

Happy to Announce the Triple C Trail is completely open.

During Hurricane Harvey a section of the trail that featured culverts built by the Civilian Conservation Corps was damaged. With additional storms, the remote location limiting equipment and the desire to protect our cultural resources, this repair took longer than most of y'all would have liked.

Now, thanks to our Resource Specialist Ranger Aric and the amazing team here at Huntsville SP. We are happy to say that the whole trail is now open.

We do need your help. Part of our trail maintenance work is having guest hike them. The wear of hiking boots on the trails makes them more established and clearer. It has been some time since this trail has seen any boots. We hope to have a more formal celebration of the opening once it gets cooler. Till then, put some boots on this section and stay hydrated.

While out on Triple C Trail our rangers stumbled upon an oasis of Prairie Blazing Stars, alive with fluttering butterflies and buzzing bees.

Above ground, these American tallgrass prairie natives are pollinator magnets. Their fragrance can be detected from hundreds of feet away, drawing in butterflies, bees, moths, and hummingbirds.

Underground lies a hardy stem that stores energy, survives drought, and helps the plant not just survive fires but thrive.

Overall, the Prairie Blazing Star is a keystone species for prairie restoration efforts, and we are ecstatic to see its majestic purple flowers in the park.

Blooming from late July through August, this is a summer showcase you donā€™t want to miss on Triple C Trail. Just donā€™t forget your water šŸ˜‰šŸ¦‹šŸŖ»šŸ”„
