Members of the community, while we are currently not under a burn ban at this time, we are asking that you please refrain from doing any outdoor burning. Conditions right now put us at a High risk level for wildfires. Several area departments, including our own, have already been working fires today.

With the threat of severe weather looming across our area today, now is the time to prep severe weather plans and not when the storms are right upon us. Here are some things you can do in advanced to help keep you and your family safe during severe weather events.

-Know your safe place, where are you going in a severe storm or tornado warning?

Think places like a storm shelter, basement, hallway, bathroom or closet. Get away from windows.

- Mobile homes and vehicles are not safe in severe weather, seek reliable structures.

- If you are in a vehicle never seek shelter under an overpass, do NOT try to outrun it. Seek shelter first, If a sturdy building (like a gas station or house) is immediately available, get inside to an interior room on the lowest floor.

- Stay in the Car (If No Shelter Nearby): If you cannot reach a building, stay in your car, keep your seatbelt fastened, and keep the engine running so airbags remain functional.

- Get Low and Cover Up: Duck down below the windows to avoid flying debris. Cover your head and neck with your arms, or use a blanket or jacket.

- Ditch Option (Last Resort): If you can safely get significantly lower than the roadway, abandon your car and lie flat in a low-lying area (like a ditch or ravine), covering your head. Do not park your car over a ditch to hide under it.

- Stay Away from Trees: Park away from trees and power lines that could fall on your vehicle

- Keep a "go-bag" handy for your safe spot with items such as flashlights, batteries, phone chargers, power banks, water, first aid kits, shoes and a whistle.

Please never rely solely on tornado sirens to warn you, especially if you're asleep.
It’s always a good idea to have multiple ways to receive warnings, don't rely on just one.
